BaseCamp 4.4.0.1 BETA is now available and can be downloaded here:

http://garmindeveloper.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.4.0.1.exe

This release does not support XP.

You do not have to uninstall BaseCamp 4.3.5 and it will not overwrite that installation. The BETA and an official release of BaseCamp will live side-by-side but must be used separately.

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

• Added notification that eligible devices can install maps on the desktop using Garmin Express
• Added ability to create and manage areas to avoid while routing
• Added properties (and shading) for public land survey types
• Added progress bar in the data list for downloading BirdsEye
• Added progress bar on the BirdsEye wizard for downloading BirdsEye
• Added way to activate BirdsEye subscriptions within BaseCamp
• Added ability to go back on the BirdsEye wizard dialog and select a new area (subscription only)
• Added option to disable imagery display in the map views
• Added some additional waypoint symbols to be more consistent with newer nuvi and zumo devices
• Added Duplicate List and Contents menu option
• Added a column in the data list for waypoint category name
• Added map context menu option to search for the most recently used search category
• Improved response time when populating the list of Birdseye providers
• Changed how nearest area results are displayed on the map when hovering
• Changed to ask if the waypoint should be shared between routes when splitting a route
• Changed to preserve the settings in the print page settings dialog
• Fixed problem with marine heights being displayed incorrectly
• Fixed issues when reading GPX files that contain invalid times
• Fixed odd rendering on newer City Navigator maps
• Fixed issues with inconsistent track stats

Post here if you have questions.

The BETA is currently only for English users.

Before using this release, back up your data.

Please post any bugs you may find here. This release is to assist us in testing with a wider user base and wider set of devices. Bugs may be present, and any feedback is welcomed.

Again, thank you for all who participate.

Download and installed just fine :)

For those that aren't familiar with BC beta's they (deliberately) do NOT copy your existing settings/database as released versions do. That said you can manually copy your old settings (user.config file) to the beta if you want (I just did). If you do that the beta will copy your existing database the next time it is started.

Not sure what these are yet, but if they are what I think, this will be cool!

SUPER excited! I have been trying to figure out new ways to ask for both of these. I will definitely be providing feedback real soon.

    • Fixed odd rendering on newer City Navigator maps

Thanks for addressing this so quickly as well. It was quite distracting!

It took me a few minutes to figure this out. Firstly you need to enable the avoidance feature by ticking the tickboxes in

Options (Ctrl-O), Activity Profile, Routing (tab), Area Avoidances (scroll to the bottom)

You also need to show the "Area Avoidances" tool (icon) on the toolbar. I had trouble with this part. I enabled it but it didn't show until I restarted BC. The tool is a small box filled with red diagonal lines.

After that you can easily define areas to be avoided when creating routes.

Avoidances are per Profile--that is if you define an area for the "Driving" profile it is not applicable to the "Hiking" profile. If you change profiles Avoidances may disappear or (re)appear (if you tick the option to have them displayed) although that is buggy.

In the 4.3.5 thread I reported that I could not get BC to start on a new Samsung Ativ Book 9 running Win 8.1 + Update.

Following SUSSAMB's advice I reported the issues to Garmin support and provided copies of relevant logs.

I got absolutely no help. The person ostensibly dealing with the case did not even trouble to reply to emails.

However, happily, although the changelog does not suggest changes which affect the way in which the program works with .Net Framework (which is where the errors were) the new Beta loads and starts without difficulty, both on the Samsung notebook and on my main Win7 x64 machine.

Thank you and congratulations to the developers.

Uhhhh sorry, I wrote too soon ...

It's back to crashing again, although, compared to 4.3.5, the program window now comes up before the crash. I've tried the usual uninstall / reinstall routine, together with removing all references to BC in files folders and registry, but to no effect. :-((

JM47048, do you know where Avoidance data is stored? I know MapSource saves it in the Windows registry. I'd like to know so I can back it up.

Currently in the registry. We hope to change that. So right now it can't be moved between computers.
