How Prevent BaseCamp from changing route?

Ive made 2 separate routes that I want to travel. WHen I select the 2 routes and then "Join Selected Routes", Basecamp creates new paths, selecting the fast path etc.

How can I fix the routes I make so that they are not recalculated? I just want to follow the exact route I make.

THank you
  • Only reason I can think of that this would happen is if you were joining 2 routes with different activity profiles, try to ensure they're the same before you join them.

thanks for the suggestion. I went through and made sure all the paths were set for "Driving" and it was still making looping paths that made no sense. I then double clicked on the path and looked at each individual point and noticed that the end point I was trying to join was set for "none". After changing it to "Driving" and joining the 2 again it joined correctly. Probably "None" was some artifact left over fromwhen I was experimenting with different routes.

  • How prevent Basecamp from changing my route?

I have 2 routes, call them Route 1 and Route2, of a larger travel plan. These are contiguous routes that I want to travel exactly. I hold the shift key and select both routes then using the mouse right click menu I select "Join selected routes". The result should be a new single route connecting the "arrival" of the last point of Route 1 with the "depart" or 1st point of Route 2. However, basecamp recalculates a looping path with travel starting and stopping from the depart point of Route 1 or a looping route traveling in both directions. I checked all the individual points and they are all set for "driving".
Any thoughts on what Im doing wrong?
I would appreciate any advise you can offer to prevent Basecamp from changing the exact routes I want to travel.
    THanks again
  • Guess it's not working then :)

Just a thought ... Basecamp will join them in the order you select them, are you selecting Route 1 then Route 2? If you do end of 1 should go to start of 2. Now, what the route will be will depend on a number of things. The map you have selected, the activity profile and any routing/avoidance settings.

Are you able to post a screen shot?
  • Ahhh. Your a genius:) And Im seriously Basecamp challenged! Yes, I was careful now to select the routes in the right order and they all connected correctly and did not alter my route.

In that process my trip starting point changed. I tried to fix that by cutting the "via points" in the route properties and then pasting them at the beginning. That sort of worked as the start point is correct buy Im missing a piece of the route now which is manageable to repair.
Is there a better way to change the starting point in a circular route?
    Thanks again for the advise!
  • You can move points using the move tool. Just hover around points you want to move until they expand slightly ... Then click and hold, move then drop them where you want.

Understood. I dont want to move a point, but I want to start the route at a different point. Is there an easy way to do that?
  • Well I just move the start point. You could also create a new waypoint for your new start point, then open Route Properties and add that waypoint.

OK. I think I see how that works. Thanks again
