Inputting Destinations on nuvi 3598LMT-D

I've been inputting addresses in France and saving them as Favourites in advance of a forthcoming trip, having switched the country setting to France first. Whereas I've had no problem with most hotels etc., I've been unable to input the address for a major destination - Toulouse-Blagnac Aeroport in Toulouse. The official address for the airport is simply 31703 Blagnac but I cannot find any way to get the device to recognise this address. I've tried typing road names outside the airport, typing in 'Toulouse-Blagnac', even Aeroport but none of these are recognised by the satnav. Typing in 'Blagnac' is recognised as 'Route de Blagnac' with a 31200 postcode which suggests it's not anywhere near the airport.

I have the same problem with the ferry terminal near Bilbao, in Spain. The official address is Puerto de Bilbao, Muelle A3, Zierbena 48508 but the only bit the satnav recognises is Zierbena and it requires street names etc. so that it can save a destination. As it refuses to recognise the rest of the address, it's impossible to complete the process.

As things stand, I may have to rely on road signs instead of the satnav for both locations which is bizarre to say the least!

I can't believe such an advanced satnav is incapable of storing major destinations such as these.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • You could input the Favorite as coordinates. Go to Google Maps, and search for Toulouse-Blagnac Aeroport. Select your destination (spot on a road), right click and select "Whats Here?" in the pop-up menu. The coordinates will be shown in the Google map search box. You can then enter these values in your nuvi. Note that Google displays the coordinates as latitude, longitude while Garmin devices typically want the values entered in reverse order. Also, make sure you select 'Decimal degrees" as the input format on the nuvi.

Many thanks for the prompt and very helpful reply - I've been able to input both destinations following your instructions. I am, nonetheless, keen to know if there is a way I could have inputted both locations without resorting to Google Maps as this solution pre-supposes I have internet access as well as a PC or smartphone that can link through to Google Maps. Driving through the wilder parts of rural France, that's quite a big ask!

    Thanks again.
  • Both those locations come up in POIs, as indeed do most major transportation locations. No need to use Google maps.

Use Basecamp and you can send all the locations you want at the same time to your nuvi, I plan all my trips that way.

Thank you for this - I hadn't considered using POIs and I found both destinations quite quickly taking that approach.
