connecting contiguous routes?

The problem: I created a 300 mile motorcycle plan. I used waypoints to direct the Nuvi to the roads I wanted vs the fastest route etc. When I was done I had 9 routes that made up the entire plan and when transferred to the Nuvi had nine different routes I had to select when I got to the start of each. I guess the real problem is In a Basemap Nubi:)

My question: How can I connect the routes so its once contiguous plan?

Next time: What is the best technique to create a large plan such as this for a single Nuvi route in the device?

Thank you for sharing your experience!
  • Well you can combine the routes by selecting them all in BC then right clicking and selecting Join selected routes. Be sure you select the routes in the order you want them to be joined.

One word of caution, your nuvi may not be able to handle such a long route, so try it before you rely on it!

I believe that I've nailed this problem although quite why Garmin have designed the software to behave in this fashion is quite beyond me but there again, most things that Garmin have done this past couple of years have gone beyond me lol.

If I plan a route - length immaterial - and only enter the start and end points, BC provides me with one route and this one route transfers over to my Nuvi3597 unchanged and is to be found in the Trip Planner menu. I should stress that when choosing my planned route, say Day 1, then that is the only entry to be found.

However, if having created a route by entering only the start and end points as above but then drag the route around to end up with one of my choosing by adding points, when this route is transferred over to the Nuvi I now get multiple entries in my route. To be clear - if, in the Trip Planner menu as above I choose Day 1, the screen that appears presents me with a number of entries which includes my final destination.

This threw me for a while until it finally hit me that because I was creating extra points when planning the route these were being transferred over to the Nuvi as mini routes included within the main route.

Once again, just to be clear, if say I create a route from town A with a destination of town B - save this as Day 1 and transfer it to the Nuvi, when I select Day 1 in the Nuvi's Trip Planner menu it shows up as Day 1 with no further entries.

If on the other hand I add an extra point to this planned route - say 'temporary point' - and then send it to the Nuvi, when looking in the units Trip Planner it indeed shows up as Day 1 but when selecting this route, point B (the destination) appears as indeed does temporary and I am invited to select one before pressing Go.

So it appears that although I am creating one route the Nuvi upon receiving it splits it up allowing me to select various stages of the route. Now this is fine if I want to split the route up and stop at temporary but in reality this is just a point that I have added to create a route more to my liking. Although it is irksome I have learned to live with it and simply select the final destination and up to now, touch wood, the Nuvi has always followed the route that I have planned back on the PC.
