For some time now I use a Garmin device and BaseCamp. They are acceptable to good, some "simple" changes to BaseCamp software would make it if not good at least better.

  • Allow to mark tracks/points/folders/list to be shown/hidden. As opposed to current “show all under my position in collection” (see Google Earth or QtLandKarte).
This would give better control of what is visible on the map and I would not have to copy data around to have them visible at a given level. Mostly needed when I have too many data available, like all camping places in country and a few tracks that I want to plan.
  • Show in collection properties like creation date and type (track, waypoint, route, etc.). And allow to sort bases on that.
It would make data easier to find and work with.
  • Non proprietary and not version dependent format for BaseCamp backups.
I was at one point moving from Windows to Mac and could not import my tracks! Because Garmin has released Base camp 4.3.4 for Windows and 4.3.3 for Mac. And guess what, you cannot load a backup into an order version.
  • Allow to export collection as separate GPXs in a folder structure, rather than current “one file for all” which loses all previously defined data organization. Unorganized data is just garbage.
And will allow allow user to easier work with other software. (because BaseCamp is not yet perfect)
  • Allow to structure data in the "cloud storage".
The current cloud storage is a joke as it does not allow to structure the data. At least I cannot work with a big bucket of tracks and points. Cannot use that to plan trips.
  • Allow some control on "at what zoom does a road become visible" (at least similar to QtLandKarte's detail option)
  • You have too many software solutions for the same thing: keeping track of gps recordings, training data, planing new trips.
Could you make just one, better?
