Someone please help

I recently upgraded from a Zumo 550/Mapsource configuration to a zumo 390/basecamp. I used the prior system for many years including creating more than few 10,000 mile cross country rides almost all custom created routes, so I know how to do this. All that took place on a windows 7 desktop.

Soon after buying the 390 I upraded my hardware to a new PC windows 8.1. I DL basecamp and tx over data from my windows 7 to my new machine via the device.

But now I can't create a route for ransom money. Clicking on desired roads and highways means nothing to this software. If I create a route from A to B via 4-5 different roads all it does is lay a straight line from A to B as the "crow flies." I get nothing but straight lines like I was flying a airplane. I must be missing something somewhere or have some kinda option that needs clicking.

It was working fine on my windows 7 machine but no love on the new. Can anyone help? I have a major tour coming up to South Dakota in a few weeks and it'd be nice to plan my custom route.

There is a tool that will allow you to draw routes. It may be hidden by default. If you go to the tools menu you should see that there are a number of tool bars that can turn on and off. When you turn on the routing tools, choose the tool with the green boxes, and you should be able to point-click to draw your routes.
  • Which activity profile do you have selected? Double click a route to open the route properties. Look top right ... If direct is showing choose another profile from the drop down box. You should then see the route recalculate . It should now follow the roads.

I have the same problem and I have the auto profile choosen. I've tried several and I get nothing but a straight line? Any help appreciated. This should be pretty simple, I don't understand what's causing this. I used Map Source since 2000 and never had this problem?
  • So just to confirm. When you double click a route and look at route properties the Activity Profile shown in the drop down list top right is something other than direct?

If that's the case which map do you have selected?

Another user: Same Problem: I am on Mac Book Pro. Any route that I try to create using any of the several methods available simple gives me direct vector to the next point - no road following. I have not used base camp for about a year. Installed new version yesterday and can't make a route that is not "Direct". I have selected the direct route and tried each of the activity options - Driving, Motorcyle, etc.

What maps should I have available when I do not have a GPS device connected? Must I have the GPS device connected to the computer to use its map?
  • If you haven't installed maps to your PC/mac then that will explain the straight lines.

To use the maps from your GPS then yes, it must be connected. Or you can transfer them to usb stick/sd card and BC will read them from that.
