How to move/use maps from MapSource in Basecamp?

I am trying to move from an older laptop with MapSource to a newer laptop with Basecamp.

My GPS is a 60CSx with City Navigator maps.

One big problem, I can't find my City Navigator CD that I bought a few years back.

I have Basecamp installed on the new laptop. I can connect to the 60CSx with Basecamp and Basecamp can read in waypoints and tracks from the 60CSx but it is not recognizing the maps that are on there.

Ultimately what I want to do is a very common thing: Use my laptop to plan out a route. Load that route into the GPS and follow it. Crazy talk huh? :)

In Basecamp, if I try "Trip Planner" & "New Trip" it tells me my current map (default with free install of Basecamp) will not work, and I either need a different map or to use the map from the GPS.

So I'd like to use the map from my 60CSx. Basecamp sees the device, sees the waypoints & tracks, but is not picking up the maps loaded in the GPS.

Basecamp version is 4.3.4 and the 60CSx version is 4.00.

Under "Maps" I have "Global Map" and "Trip and Waypoint Manager v5"

What do I need to do?

Thanks

Since I don't, and never have, work(ed) for Garmin I can't state their "official stance". However this FAQ

Can I view my preloaded, downloaded or preprogrammed map data in BaseCamp?

    covers the issue.

Since your maps were transferred to the unit from MapSource they're not "officially" viewable in BaseCamp.

    Now you have two choices:

    • Use the software I linked to before to copy your maps from PC #1 to PC #2 (what I'd do). BC will see the maps.
    • Use JavaWa Device Manager to make the maps on your unit viewable in BC.

    Your choice.
