Modifying a route in Basecamp

Here is what I want to be able to do-I want to create a route on my Nuvi 1490,look at it on my laptop, and then modify it using Basecamp.
I don't want to completely re-draw the route, which so far seems to be the only option.
The object of the exercise is to keep my 6mtr motorhome out of back alleys in towns  which is where my Nuvi kept trying to send us on a recent 6 week in France.

  • No need to completely redraw it. Connect your 1490 to your laptop and run Basecamp. It should appear it the top left hand pane, along with the Basecamp 'My collections'. Click on the 1490 in the top pane and any routes on your 1490 should appear in the bottom left hand pane. Drag/drop the one you want to modify into 'My collections'. You should then be able to modify it and send it back to your 1490.

Note you cannot delete the original route on your 1490 using Basecamp, so name the modified route so you know which is which.

Just note that you need to try to ensure the routing/avoidance settings in BC are as close as possible to the ones on your 1490, so the route is then likely to be the same on your 1490 but that isn't guaranteed. If it works out that it isn't add further waypoints until the 2 do match.
  • You only need to copy the route you want to modify into Basecamp, so you shouldn't get any other lines. Have you selected the CN EU map in Basecamp? If not you may get funny results as it will try to route using just the Basemap. Look under Maps in the toolbar and ensure CN EU is selected.
