Garmin GPSmap 60CSx not seen in BaseCamp

I just installed a garmin topo map on my sd card but Base camp does not find it. It sees older tracks and waypoints that are located on the internal storage. But I'd like to plot tracts and waypoints for a trail prior to my hike.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The map may not be visible in Basecamp. Use JaVaWa's Device Manager to set the map to be visible

JaVaWa's Device Manager does not recognize the device either. I wonder if it might have something to do with my computer being windows 7 64 bit.

Think it's more likely to be the fact it's a 60Csx, you could get around it by installing the maps to any sd card/usb stick ... Basecamp will read them off that when connected directly to your PC.

I tried to install the maps to an independent device when I downloaded the maps but the card had to be in the unit. I'll try to copy the map from the card. Perhaps the device is just too old. Thanks for your help.

The GPSMap60csx is a serial data device, and not a mass storage device.

You must use MapSource with your GPSMap60csx. BaseCamp will not see/read that GPSr.

Incorrect. All of the 60C/76C devices have USB and serial interfaces. The x models have a mass storage mode that allows access to the microSD card in the unit.

So, you can access the SD card in the 60csx, but only to send maps. All other data types must be transferred (to the device) via serial (non mass storage mode) data protocol, which BaseCamp does not support. MapSource does support this form of data transfer, and is the only software Garmin intended to be used with the 60csx.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Have you noticed that the OP and another user in another thread (that I linked to) have it working? Do you see that I have a 76CSx and can personally verify that it works? Did you read where I stated that these models have both serial and USB interfaces? Have you heard of the Garmin USB protocol (basically the serial one over USB)?

BTW I just plugged my 76CSx into my Win7 SP1 x64 system via a USB cable and opened BaseCamp 4.3.4. BC sees it just fine. I'm therefore either delusional or a liar.

Just because youcan stick your finger in an electrical outlet doesn't mean you should.

If any user wants full functionality between PC and GPSMap60csx, they should use MapSource, the software Garmin specifically produced for managing data on that device.
