I will try that - I will first need to find the storage of the currently developed routes, as I can't afford to lose those.

Sussamb, can you advise where the routes are normally stored? I've been trying to locate the routes, but I can't find them. A while ago, with another update, it happened too, that all routes were deleted from my pc. At that time, it was a minor issue, but this time, that would be a real disaster. So I'm hoping I'm merely looking at the wrong locations, but if I do a system wide search on *.gpx, I can't find my route files.

Think I solved this: Found 2 copies of sets: Allfiles.GBD & FolderData.GFI. One set in a folder marked for version 4.2 and one set for 4.3. I'm assuming the 4.2 file set the last correctly used one, as the date & time stamps are similar to the 4.3 folder. Copied this to a back-up folder.

Hope I have it all in there. Would *really* appreciate a confirmation. :)
  • They're part of a database so searching for gpx files won't help. The data is in a folder named 4.2 or 4.3 depending on your BC version.

    Found it - thanks. :)

Will see if I can redo the installation.

Reinstalling with 4.3.4 from the website does not solve the issue. Removing again. Trying the older version shown there.

Dear Sussamb, you're nothing less than a life-saver. The legacy version runs correctly on my C660 Satellite.

My routes are back & also our 8-day trip through France, Switserland & Italy. You really saved our group's day, here. MANY THANKS. :D

Last question: the program reminds me that I should update when starting: can I disable that message somehow? I wouldn't accidentally overwrite this. I don't need to have the *last* version of BaseCamp. Any working one will do just fine.

[Edit: Never mind - found it. :) Again, many thanks for your swift reply - very much appreciated! ]

[Edit 2: Right, disabling the check, by unchecking the checkbox for software update check, does not disable the software update check. Too bad.]

    Hi Sussamb,

One last comment on the "Legacy" version: fortunately, I can move the routes back & forth again, so I'm a happy bunny: but there are a number of issues with this older release.

    Found so far:
    - the link with Google Earth doesn't work anymore,
    - file exports & imports from other than the garmin devices are not possible,
    - back-up procedure fails,
    - adventures don't work.

All these items crash the application.

So... Should you find an update that works on our Toshiba Satellite's (mine's not a Pro one, but appears to have the same issue), please do let me know. :)

    Cheers,

    Harry.

Good to know you're up and running. The issue is to do with the way Toshiba set up their laptops and an incorrectly installed ATI/AMD driver, yet it only has Intel hardware. There are numerous posts on the web about it. What you need to do is:

Download Intel drivers from their website, you need the zip version.

Extract the zip somewhere, Location does not matter

Go into Device Manager, click Display Adapters and remove the AMD/ATI drivers

Go to the tab labelled "Drivers", click "Update Drivers" and "Browse my computer for drivers"

Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers"

Click the Have Disk Button, then navigate to where your extracted drivers are and go into the directory labelled "Graphics"

    Select the file named "igdlh.INF"

Click on the OK button and then click Next, the drivers should install

After that you need to reboot, and after rebooting your drivers should be updated

My Toshiba Satellite Pro has it tells me in Display adapters an Intel (R) HD Graphics, with an Intel driver and trying to view in Google Earth crashes Basecamp.

So will I get anything of use here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx

    TVMIA :)
  • That's not what happened to me in that GE always worked, so I suspect you won't. May be worth ensuring your drivers are up to date, and if not already done so uninstall then reinstall GE.
