Hello all,

first sorry for my english, I am from France,

Proud owner of a BMW Mottorad Navigator, witch is a Zumo 660 with an attitude, I am sad to say that i meet a loads of problem with it.

I get used of the speed of it who is close to some 80's donkey kong game, the use of base camp who is a big step BEHIND the user-friendly "mapsource" where i used to enjoy planing my travels, the news maps "europe 2014" who does nop fit into the device ( that is quite funy, a near 600€ unit who does not have enougth space to meet the own garmin map, at least i have sense of humor ...) .. But I have one question about the map themself :

This sumer i'll drive back to my wife country, Roumania, and passing the italian border, i meet a problem with map of slovenia, i canot find it ! it seems that passing the
border, i go back to the global map who is not detailled..

Can anyone help me on this ?

thanx a lots for reading.

Assuming it is a BMW Navigator IV put a large memory card in it and load the entire Europe 2014 map on to the card.

If it is a BMW Navigator-V there is something wrong with it --- they have a large enough memory to hold the 2014 map.

You will have better luck asking your question over on AdvRider.com. This site is for software questions not hardware.

If Slovenia is not in the map, then You have only West Europe loaded in the zumo.

Place a 4 or 8 Gb microSD card in the zumo and repeat the Garmin Express procedure to send the maps to the zumo, Express will ask you if you want to send the maps to the microSD card and it also should be asking which region or does automatic select whole Europe (including Slovenia and Romania).

Does it not want to work this way, call Garmin France for assistance.

I changed my conputer for new windows 8, it resolved some of it, but still the software, basecamp is not good, the guys who made this thing are for sure mentaly insane, probably the same who made Itunes ! lol..
is there a way to use other soft to plan trips ?
  • I suspect your issue with BC is simply not taking a bit of time to learn it. I've now used BC for years and find it very easy and quick to use.

BaseCamp is not easy, but it's also not difficult. You need to get used to it. But out of the box, it's not easy to create something desent within a few hours.

Alternatives are ITN Convertor and Tyre to plan routes.
Or Google maps, use gpsvisualiser website to transfer the google map route to a track, load the track to the zumo and convert it in the zumo to a route (be sure that your routing preferences in the zumo are correct (less is more)).

I feel your pain Zebebert. Two years or so ago I had to learn Basecamp (BC) because I needed one of the new (to me) Nuvis that wouldn't work with anything else. I'd used MapSource (MS) for a decade or more, so Basecamp was a mojor change. Since then they've fixed a number of the BC issues that made it so much less user-friendly than MS, so now it's not so much that it's worse, it's just different. I've even decided that it's better in some ways.

I guess what I'm trying to get across to you is that it's a pain in the ass to learn BC, but it'll be worth it in the end. Change is hard. Sometimes it's harder. Garmin has perfected the making it harder part. Just hang in there; there doesn't appear to be anything else anywhere else that wouldn't require a much more difficult changeover, after which all your saved Garmin files would be rendered useless.

Also keep in mind that the 0.02% of the Garmin user community that cares even remotely about the stuff we talk about on this forum doesn't drive what goes on; the vast majority of Garmin users have no clue about planning routes/trips/journeys on a computer prior to travelling, nor of saving the tracks forever after for future reference. Those are the people who drive what gets priority, not us.

Garmin is busy trying to compete with hand-helds and tablets, and they may be losing the war.
