BaseCamp 4.3.3 AutoUpdate can't be disabled?

It seems that in BaseCamp 4.3.3 the options to enable or disable the AutoUpdate functions for devices and BaseCamp itself can't be changed by the user anymore. Options are disappeared from the Options.

I presume it's a bug.

How to disable BaseCamp update function anyway? By changing one key value in the windows registry.

Normally I do:
- CMD - R key combination
- type in: regedit {Enter}
- RegEdit wil start, probably ask for permissions, say Yes
- click to the right branch (see picture
- change AutoCheclforUpdate key from 01 to 00

    and manually download updates.

    No software UPDATE button in version 4.3.1

    Your solution works better for those that want BC to access the internet (which I don't) :)

    I just checked my AutoCheckForUpdates key, not that it matters, and it is 00. I assume that it was never changed from previous versions of BC that allowed you to change the setting in the program.
  • The big question is: Does BC ever check this AutoUpdate value now or in the future? Or is it ignored? Yes, ignored and not recreated if deleted :( (ProcessMonitor does not lie).

    Just blocking BC in a Firewall is an option, but other functions like the Adventures Garmin Could and Garmin connect search, ?Yelp? are then also blocked. So there is no Opt-out anymore? Garmin seems to look more and more a Chinese dictature.

    I haven't used Process Monitor to check. Personally it makes no difference to me. My guess is that BC ignores the registry key now. IMO Garmin has decided, along with many others, that the vast majority of users want their apps to connect to the internet and they don't care what those apps "phone home". They also don't care what 3rd parties (ISP's, NSA etc) collect all that stuff and build databases from it. That is the world we now live in.

    Just blocking BC in a Firewall is an option...

    The only BC feature I ever used via the internet was the Birdseye imagery subscription since it is the only way to get those images. However my subscription has long since expired and I have no reason to let BC access the internet. But I know I'm in the 1% of users that block it. The other 99% don't give a damn.
  • Add this to you local hosts file will probably also solve the autoupdate function:
