Basecamp frustration yet again!!!!

OK so I'm downloading maps for the US from GPS File Depot, in Basecamp, I can see 7 out of the 12 maps downloaded, but the rest it won't recognise in any file format... so I can't install them onto my Garmin 78s. All of the maps sit on the micro sd card but the hand unit won't recognise them because Basecamp hasn't installed them. I'm going back to paper maps to complete my trip & I'm really n ot happy at the time & money I've wasted on this.

I have to say & this is in the hope that someone at Garmin listens eventually, Basecamp is officially a pain in the neck. Please please bring back Mapsource or the team that developed it, because the hours I've wasted trying to sort Basecamp uploads out has ruined any perception I have that Garmin software is any good. To the point I'm looking to sell all of my garmin products & look at alternatives.

Basecamp is frustrating, painful & ridiculously hard work. change it before you lose all of your business, read any forum on GPS & nobody likes it, admit your mistake, move on guys!!!
  • Well you may be frustrated but this really isn't a Basecamp issue. Sounds to me like you've simply tried to load too many maps onto your Garmin 78s and exceeeded the number of map tiles allowed, so it wouldn't matter whether you've used MapSource or Basecamp, and of course MapSource is still available should you wish to use it. Having said that your 78 doesn't even need either to install maps onto the sd card, once you have the map in the correct .img format you can install them onto the card using Windows Explorer.

As to why Basecamp is only seeing 7 out of the 12 maps on the card try uisng JaVaWa's device manager available from here http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html. Run it and ensure it says the maps are visible in Basecamp. Where they're not Device Manager can make them visible. Again this has nothing to do with Basecamp.

As for 'nobody likes it' ... I for one do :)

Make sure you are not downloading transparent maps. The transparent (overlay) maps only work on devices, not basecamp.
