Why is BaseCamp calling home?

Since version 4.3.1 of BaseCamp, Garmin removed option to disable on-line activity of BaseCamp. At each start it connects to www.garmin.com, asks for updates and downloads some pages/links. I don't like this behavior, in my opinion this is kind of trashing in Internet. And in some cases it could be inconvenient or expensive for a user.

Are there any explanation, why BaseCamp doesn't follow good practices from previous versions?

    I hadn't noticed that!

I hate programs silently "phoning home". I don't care if its for "anonymous" statistics or whatever. Personally I'll be adding BC to my list of blocked (internet access) programs. That'll work because I don't use any of it's features that access the internet.

PS: The WinXP firewall doesn't allow blocking of outbound connections. Since BC 4.3.1 won't work on WinXP that isn't an issue. However Win7's firewall does and I now have BC completely blocked.

For XP I recommendPrivate Firewall ;) (also usable for other windows version).
