Basecamp Walking and Cycling Route Planning Problems

Using Basecamp 4.2.5 and GPSmap 62s with Topo Australia and New Zealand V4.

On these current and on earlier versions of Basecamp and the Topo Maps I have NEVER been able to get the following scenario to work.

Refer the attached Routing Challenges.jpg

I cannot plan anything - walking, cycling, mountain biking etc that will utilise the public walkways between roads, even if I put intermediate waypoints at each end of the walkway.

The routing never sees these walkways and always sticks to the roads.

How can I make Basecamp and my GPS recognise the existence of these walkways and utilise them in my planning?
  • It's not Basecamp, it's the map. It simply doesn't have those walkways as 'routeable'.

However you can set different activities in a route, so you need to set the route to 'Direct' along the walkways. To do so open the route properties and right click the point at the start of the walkway, then select Direct routing. Right click the point at the end of the walkway and select 'Cycling' or whatever.
  • Many Thanks

Yikes - that can get very time consuming as some of the places I wend my way through, this could almost drive one nuts with the number of changes that need to be made to achieve one route.
