Montana 600 Map Recognition Issues after update to 3.9 from 3.5

Basecamp does not recognize my purchased maps after update.... North America NT and a 24k topo of the NorthEast. Global shows up. The maps are selectable in my Montana when it is disconnected form the computer, but they don't work.... i.e., I can't use NT to route.

If I select "install maps", the dialog box indicates that there are no unlocked maps to install.

"Global" is the only map selectable under "maps" in BC.

I am signed in in NC, and BC is up to date.

Map Product Manager does not list my maps either, but under " Unlock Regions", There are two " Map Product Not Installed" entries with a long series of alpha-numerics following.

Thoughts???
  • Basecamp has two ways to use maps. One is it will use the maps loaded to your device when it is connected to your PC. The other is if you've installed the maps to your PC for Basecamp to use. Note your 'device' can be other than your GPS, you can for example copy the maps to a USB stick and Basecamp will read them off that.

If the maps don't show in Basecamp without your Montana connected then either you didn't install them to your PC or something has gone wrong. How did you install the maps onto your PC?

I bought the M6 as a returned item from LL Bean, and it had the 24k topo of the NE already installed internally.

I purchased the CN NT 2014 as a digital download.

Basecamp isn't recognizing either of them, but they are user selectable on the M6 when it is disconnected from the computer.

The reason I thought the M6 lost functionality is that I updated it yesterday am and downloaded a route for a group MC ride.... the M6 prompted me that the route was not on routable roads, and asked me if I wanted to re-route. If I selected yes, it came up with another error message that there was no routable map in my device. I thought CN NT had pretty much every road on it... the route was not on any unnamed roads, so I just figured the map was not being identified properly by the M6.

Is ther some setting to force it to route along roads it should/can identify as routable, direct route the sections it can't, then pick back up on routable roads?? It would be nice if I didn't have to load it into BC first, and make multiple sections based on the limitations on CN NT. Of course, that's assuming CN NT is being identified by BC, which it isn't at the moment.

BTW, BC and the M6 were working great with all three ( Global, NT, and the 24k topo) prior to the update.

Incidentally, I just downloaded Garmin Express, and it recognized the 2014 CN NT as needing an update. It is currently downloading... Oddly though, when I clicked the install button, it opened two instanced of downloading the same file. Should I delete one?
  • No, one of those is the install to your PC (or should be). Perhaps when that's finished you can see where you are and whether you still need help.

If CN NA is loaded to your Montana and you get 'no routeable map' it's probably because you haven't selected it.

I selected it.... Matter of fact, that's the first thing I did when the problem showed up. I even tried deselecting the other two maps. No joy.

Regardless of how the CN NT issue resolves post-update, I'm still not getting to the 24k topo in BC.

    ok, quick update.

the CN NT update failed - both instances. It didn't really say why.

I have to amend a prior statement - I have indicated above that the map that came on the unit - the 24k topo, was selectable in the M6. Not true. It is no longer on the device. It may be that I removed the memory card it was on.... I'm unsure, but will look into that later.

The CN NT is on the device, and works.. I guess there were some roads yesterday that are not in its database, thus the failure to properly route.

the biggest issue that remains is.... BC cannot see or use the CN NT that is on the M6..... When properly connected, the M6 shows up in BC, BC shows it syncing, the waypoints and routes from the device can be seen.... but nothing other than the Global Map shows up as a selectable map from within BC.

    How do I fix that??
