Simulating Routes - Starting at other than current REAL location

I loaded some POI's into my Nuvi 2595. Namely rest areas

Now I want to test how the Nuvi handles them so I created a route that started 5 miles from one of the rest areas and ends AT that rest area.

Problem is, when I try to simulate the route, it starts at my current location (home) instead of the start waypoint for the desired route.

Is there a way to get it to start the simulation at the start of the route rather than home (or current location)?

First of all switch to GPS Simulator mode, then browse to the location you want to start from. Tap the map and you'll see the flag pop up. Tap it again and select Set Location. Your nuvi will now think it's there and you can simulate the route.

I dont get a flag pop up on the 2595.

The POI did not trigger the proximity alert nor visuals

Does simulation take POIs into consideration?

Also....

I placed the tracks DIRECTLY on top of I-75 (right in the middle) but the simulator says "Off Road"?

Well AFAIK it should trigger them if they're set up correctly, but we're getting into device issues rather than Basecamp. You would be better posting POI queries in the POI forum https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?182-POI-Loader

As for tracks/off road are you using the same map in Basecamp and the device? Off road should only come up if your nuvi believes it's 'off road'. It's not something I've seen often but generally it's if the map doesn't have a route to the final point.

Same maps. Odd because it's on a major interstate - dead center - and the Nuvi is saying Off Road. Sometimes this stuff is really confusing.

When you simulate it when does the off road message pop up. It's possible the rest areas are 'off road'.

Now then....

The Off road message appears as soon as it begins navigating. It is in a gray bar across the top of the GPS.

Yes, it is possible. I placed them on the Interstate as best as I could tell. How can I be sure I placed the rest areas ON ROAD?

Also, as far as Proximity Points are concerend....does it matter if the Rest Areas are on the roadway?

Difficult to know. Your nuvi will always try to navigate to them even if you've placed them off road. If they're POIs you've loaded that could always happen.

Something just occurred to me as the simulation just drove off to the North into the woods for no apparent reason.

Could it be that I'm using the new Beta version of Basecamp and it's just experiencing erroneous and random problems?

I think I'll go back to the last stable version and see if that helps.
