You shouldn't have needed to. If you got back to the point where you left then normally you'd expect the nuvi to choose the same route, but that won't always happen 100% of the time, guess that trip was one where it didn't. Your nuvi only has a small amount of processing power, so it may very well choose one route from A to B, and another if it calculates a route from somewhere between A and B to B.
Thxs for replies. Something I will have to watch. There are times when I will want to choose a certain route even though Garmin GPS would route differently. There has to be a solution.
Just out of curiosity, did this route from Basecamp contain shaping points, or only hard waypoints (destinations)? I haven't experimented with shaping points, but have wondered how they would respond if you went off route. For example, if you had 3 shaping points between destinations, then go off route after shaping point 1, will it route back to shaping point 2 and 3 or will it skip the remaining shaping points and route directly to the next destination?
I believe all my units do the same on auto-recalculate--that is navigate to the next point. With some models (my 1490T does this but my 76CSx doesn't) if you (re)start a route mid-way through you get the option to navigate back to the start or from where you currently are.
