eTrex 30 -communication problem

Hi,

I've recently bought an eTrex 30, and have been trying it with BaseCamp (v.2.4.5), but I'm getting several problems.

When I connect to BC, I get the message:
"The following can't be transferred:
1. Waypoints
2. Routes

Either the GPS doesn't support the items or BC needs to be updated.
Press OK to transfer the other items you selected (if any)"

My eTrex firmware is v2.80. BC says that 3.70 is available, but WebUpdater downloads it and then says "file corrupted".

I've generated some tracks and watched the Garmin video on how to upload and edit them. However, although BC recognises my eTrex, it says internal storage "list is empty".

I've previously used my 12XL with GPSU, so I'm not a total GPS/PC newbie. I should also mention that I've installed BC on 2 different PCs, and got the same problem.

Am I doing something wrong, or might I have a faulty unit?

That doesn't sound right. Follow the instructions for a master reset here https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Bd10af480-1fc5-11e1-73d0-000000000000%7D then try webupdater again.

If that still doesn't work then I suspect the unit may be faulty.

Incidentally the latest Basecamp version is 4.2.5 not 2.4.5, or was that just an error in your post? If you are not on 4.2.5 you should update Basecamp as well.

I performed the master reset as you advised. Although it didn't delete my tracks etc, BC no longer gives me the message about not transferring waypoints and routes, and did successfully update my firmware. Now it reads my internal storage.

One thing that surprised me: I need to be in Mass Storage mode to connect. Before I had been trying in Garmin mode, but I think that I tried both.
I get an error message when I try to connect to GPSU, but that's for a different forum. I'm pleased that it's working with BC.

Now to learn how to use it. :)
