Navigating with Garmin - total newbie question

Hi All,

I'm new to Garmins and have just got an Oregon 600 from Santa for hiking. I created a track using base camp and transferred it to the device today and set out on a walk. What I want to do is a) follow the track I set and b) track the walk so I can record stats on my walk etc etc. So, to get going I went into 'Track Manager', selected my new track and on the map view, hit the 'Go' button. This was then showing my position on top of the track route I'd added. After a mile or two, I checked my walk by going into 'Track Manager' again, and selecting 'Current Track' at the top. This showed me the distance I'd walked and plotted the track, but I could no longer see track route that I was trying to follow. I came out of the current track and selected the track that I'd previously added, and could then see my position in relation to the original track. In switching between these two though - 'Current track' and track pre-added, I somehow reset the tracking of the walk I was doing, getting halfway through the walk with it starting afresh. So, my question is ... am I using it properly - i.e. can I both follow a pre-existing track and also record the walk I'm doing whilst following it?

Any advice would really be appreciated

Thanks,
Dan
