BaseCamp 4.3.0.3 BETA is now available and can be downloaded here:

http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.3.0.3.exe

This release does not support XP.

You do not have to uninstall BaseCamp 4.2.5 and it will not overwrite that installation. The BETA and an official release of BaseCamp will live side-by-side but must be used separately. However the 4.3.0.2 BETA will be replaced.

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

Improved UI for address search
Improved results for address search auto-complete
Fixed a bug where Top Results search didn't refresh in advanced
Fixed a bug where cancelling the address search find did not work
Fixed a bug where address searches were not yielding results on device maps
Improved matching of serach results if search results exactly match user entered criteria
Fixed inversion of route departure times
Update free-form search string whenever advanced search parameters change
Fixed a bug where attemping to do an address search forces a POI search
Fixed not being able to clear departure time on last via if set after inverting route

Post here if you have questions.

The BETA is currently only for English users.

Before using this release, back up your data.

NOTE: We are aware of some issues with routing. Moving waypoints caused the route to leave roads unexpectedly. We know about this issue, and a fix is undergoing QA, however it did not make it into this build. There is no need to report on this issue, we believe we have that under control.

Please post any bugs you may find here. This release is to assist us in testing with a wider user base and wider set of devices. Bugs may be present, and any feedback is welcomed.

Again, thank you for all who participate.
  • [...] My intent was to find a curvy and twisty back road route to the destination as a start then tweak the route accordingly (I do not expect BC to find the perfect roadset every time, but curvy roads becomes a great starting point). [...]

That's exactly the way I would like to use this curvy roads feature. I use this feature with Navigon for years now and it works great.

FYI Microsoft just released .NET 4.5.2 (4.5.51209.34209). I assume BC will require this moving forward.

    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (Offline Installer) for Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2

We will not be moving to 4.5.2 on the first 4.3 release of BaseCamp. There is too much risk associated with a .NET release this close to the release cycle. I would imagine (and I qualify that I have not done my research on the release) that it is likely an internal bug fix release and will likely be interface compliant with the 4.5.1 .NET Framework.

So everyone knows, I will be out of pocket on family business for a few days. Falagar will be able to answer questions over the rest of this week.

I will be checking this periodically but I wanted you guys to know that if I am not answering, it's not that I've disappeared. lol

When are we going to be able to use a 4.3.1 "for real" release of BaseCamp? I'm quite anxious to have this resource.

    Thanks.
  • When it's ready ... don't expect a date to be given, it's all down to the developers being happy with what they've learned from the beta etc etc.
  • Just finished a 6400 mile road trip across the US and back using Basecamp 4.3.0.3 to plan and make the trip... Overall extremely pleased with the BC beta. I did the planning on my home computer and also used BC on the laptop to make route adjustments when we were on the road.

One thing I always wondered about since I saw the Time Zone update available for my Garmin 3597 was exactly how this function would present itself regarding arrival times and whether this function was in Basecamp..

In BaseCamp I extensively used the "Edit Via Point" function to edit via points in routes I created to plug in departure times and dates and to insert estimated "Layover" time in alerting waypoints for places we visited. Overall very sweet function to have, and works seamlessly with the Garmin 3597. btw did not use Trip Planner.

When the route destination is in a new time zone, the 3597 and Basecamp correctly adjusts to show arrival time as per the time in the new time zone.. This was very handy, especially in traveling in Arizona and some Indian reservations there that don't adhere to the general 3 time zones in the United States..

However, when a route (intermediate) alerting waypoint is in a new time zone, I didn't see the time zone adjustment being made to show the waypoint arrival time as per time in the new time zone..

Perhap you could see if this is a bug or, functionality for intermediate waypoints that is currently not implemented..

Thanks again for a vastly improving product.
  • The time zones are handled in the Trip Planner, but not in the regular route yet. That's a short coming that will be addressed, but the expectation was that most users on long trips would use Trip Planner.
  • I have the Garmin RV 760 which includes America's RV Parks and Services. Previous versions of BaseCamp would not display or search for the Parks and Services. I was told a newer version would fix that problem. Does this Beta have that repair in it? I don't want to install anything until that is fixed. I have a patched set of RV Parks and Services that I can use and waiting for a good version of BaseCamp.
    Thanks
