BaseCamp "new" button and address drop down missing

Prdon my ignorance but I am new to Basecamp.
The help video instructions do not seem to agree with version 4.2.5.
One help video refers to an "address drop down" from the "find toolbar".
Another video refers to a "new" button on a toolbar to start a new route.
Basecamp on my PC doesn't have a new button, a find toolbar or an address drop down.
Where can I get instructions on how to find an address?
or how to start a new route? in Basecamp 4.2.5 or
should I just return to using the old MapSource with its fill in the blanks search box.
Thanks for your help
  • Find is the fourth one along in the top toolbar, are you saying yours is missing

You can alternatively hit Ctrl + Alt + A for the address box

To add additional toolbars go to View, Toolbars and (in your case) select Drawing Tools ... this contains the New Route tool

I must be using a different program. I am using Base Camp version 4.2.5
I am a partially dumb; but am a successful user of Map Source.
There is no option to start a new route in my version of Base Camp. The option I have is to start a new trip.
There is no "new" button as shown in the help video and no option for a new route.
Clicking or double clicking with the arrow tool doesn't start a route as described in the instruction video.
There is no "address dropdown" as shown in the video.
Do I have the wrong program?
  • No but have you tried my instructions? Install the Drawing Tools toolbar ... the 'new route' button looks like 3 green squares connected by 2 lines. You can see it here next to the 5

Have you tried Ctrl + Alt +A? You should see something like the top part of this:

If that doesn't work try Ctrl + Alt + F. If neither work something is wrong with your Basecamp install.

    Thank you for your patience.
    I will reinstall.
    I have tried your instructions.
The drawing tools options is activated. But the drawing tools options including the 3 squares thingee are grayed out.

Could you suggest how to do use the find tool?
The search function is not at all similar to the drop down box pictured in your video.
I do find .. find address.. and a box opens on the right of the screen. Above and to the right of the this is a fill- in - the - blank box that says "search" in gray and has a blue spy glass.
I type something easy like "warsaw" and click on the blue spyglass and get "no results found". I haven't even tried for a street address.
Is this blue spyglass blank the search box for city, street, postal code, country, POI etc.
    Thanks
  • Ah yes, my screen prints are probably from the 4.3 beta ... when you hit Ctrl + Alt + F check that addresses is selected in Type, otherwise addresses won't be found. If you want to find a city you need to select POI, Cities in the Type list. Then enter Warsaw and hit search and it should be found. I assume you have CN EU installed on your PC for Mapsource/Basecamp to use?

The Drawing tools toolbar would only be grayed out if you've selected a device that Basecamp cannot work with in the left hand top pane. Click on My Collections in the top left hand pane, now is it grayed out?

I followed your instructions and also uninstalled and reinstalled BaseCamp 425.
Same results . CTRL ALT A doesn't do what you show it should? Drawing tools are still grayed out.
Does Europe map City Navigator NTU 2013.2 have a quirk that may be causing this.
I haven't uninstalled MapSource. Could this be a problem?
Or do you have instructions on how to completely remove (not just uninstall) BaseCamp without destroying the two maps on my computer?
  • Map shouldn't be an issue. Confirm you've selected My collection and the route toolbar is still grayed out? The only toolbar that should then be grayed out is the Edit toolbar, that remains grayed out until you select something to edit.

    Ctrl + Alt + A does not work on 4.2, I'm using the 4.3 beta, but as I posted Ctrl + Alt + F should work ...

Mapsource isn't an issue, I have that, Basecamp 4.2.5 and the Basecamp beta all installed on my PC.

Click on "my collection" and the drawing tools light up. It's magic.
Now when I CTRL ARL F I still cannot find Warsaw. Is it not an address? is the blue spyglass the right place to search? Should I edit the gray "center of view" to some other location? Any suggestions?
  • You need to read the detail in my posts. To find a City ensure you select POI in the Type list then Cities in the drop down list, then enter Warsaw in the search box and hit enter ... comes up straight away.

    Thanks for your assistance.
I should have started with you instead of clicking on the help button in the program.
Maybe you could have the online videos revised to look like the BaseCamp latest version and avoid people like me bothering you.
    Thanks again.
