Problem Updating Basecamp 4.2.5.0

I've been trying to install an update to basecamp however I'm getting an error message that says it's a group policy problem. Typically this happens when an executable is being run out of the downloads file, however I moved the .exe file to the desktop and still have the same error message. I spoke to our IT manager and he is not aware of any setting that would prevent this update from installing. Does anyone have any ideas to try?

Thanks, Dave

  • The error you are experiencing may be happening due to privilege issues. The software requires that the user have Administrative rights to the computer. You may want to ask your IT department if they can log in to your PC with their user name and pass word and see if the software will install.

Another thing you can also try is locate the file BaseCamp.exe on your desktop and Right-click the file then in the menu box select "Run as administrator". Running the software in this way sometimes allow it to be installed as an elevated process.

If the update is still getting stuck you may want to uninstall BaseCamp. Once the program has been removed restart the PC and then reinstall the latest version of BaseCamp. Doing this will give you a fresh install and not have BaseCamp try to update.

  • Sorry, just to confirm, this thread is about 4.2.5 ... is that what you're trying to run? Just that the latest is 4.3.4.

As for being blocked by 'group policy', are you on a network of some sort?
  • If you're on a network please contact your network administrator. If you have another query about installing 4.3.4 please start another thread, as this one is about 4.2.5. Thanks.
