Routing limitation 30 points - Is there a reason it can't be raised?

I think the limit is 50 for autoroutes and 250 for direct (point to point) routes.

How many routes and via points can I have on a color handheld device?

The limits probably come from a time (not too long ago) when device memory was more limited than today.

He's talking about his nuvi. Trip planner devices are limited to 30.

A guess would be memory (temporary type not storage) on the devices. Automated routes contain the points you add plus points that follow the routable features. I suspect that Garmin has chosen a number that is unlikely to cause failure.

I've never done this, but for those who like to experiment try creating a route that traverses back and forth across your country severa times. Check to see if it contains more than 10000 points by exporting as a gpx and opening it with Excel (each row is a point). Send it to your device and see if it chokes when activated.

But as I understand it, some previous devices with less memory and computing power accommodated up to 200 points? Not sure on that tho.

That FAQ implies that one could have up to 50 (point-to-point) routes x 250 points = 12.500 route points total. I know my 76Csx only handles about half that many. As with many limits in Garmin devices they're unpublished and subject to change (with firmware version etc).

How many waypoints can I have on a route on my Camper, nuvi, LIVE, zumo, RV, or dezl device?
