I'm running BaseCamp on Windows 8. When I try and restore a backup file I get the following error....

Restore failed.

The following problems occurred:
Failed to determine the available disk space.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have removed and restored BaseCamp to the latest version and have even tried the 4.3.0.1 Beta version.

I have successfully restored the same back up files to my win 7 laptop with no problems.

Any help will be appreciated.

Would you be willing to send me your restore file so that I can try and reproduce this? I am not aware of Windows 8 restore issues but I'd like to look into this.

What version are you running? If you go to Help -> About it will tell you. Is this the beta or the 4.2.5 release?

Actually, I am not able to reproduce your issue either with the beta or with 4.2.5. Is it possible that your disk is nearly full? Can you check the space you have available? The backups are compressed files and when we restore them they are decompressed taking up more space then they did originally.

I have the problem with both the 4.2.5 and Beta 4.3.0.1 release.

My hard drive is 500GB with 287GB of free space. Don't think that is an issue.

It might be a permissions issue.

Open an explorer window. In the bar at the top where you can type your path type this:

%AppData%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.2

See if you can rename this folder. Then try the restore update again. If you can't rename this folder that may be your problem. That means you might have to run the update as an administrator.

This is just a guess mind you, I am not able to reproduce your issue with the very data you have provided to me.

Make sure you rename 4.2 back to where it was before otherwise your data will appear missing. Also try this by renaming the 4.3 folder as well. And you might try as an admin first if you haven't already done that.
