I don't know if it will get traction this late in the cycle, but I'll open up being able to change the via point image from within BaseCamp.

To me it's one of those set once and forget things. All Vias/Shaping Points/Route Points/Whatever you call them get the same symbol--that specified by the ViaSymbol registry setting.
  • I would also appreciate the possibility to select different symbols for via points and shaping points on the map.

    Canario
  • Disappointed to see the 'elevation' vs. 'altitude' display of a track log is still not available :(
  • thanks for putting the via point issue on the "to do" list. It will be appreciated by a lot of people.

I am a little disappointed in the Trip Planner - New Trip - Round Trip possibility. I thought it was going to be similar to the Trip Planner I am used to use in a German program called 'Motorrad Touren Planer" (Don't google for it as it is not longer sold under that name. It became OnRoute but with less features).

If I choose a 1 day Round Trip in the Trip Planner I guess that start and end point are the same (round?), yet I have to enter an ending point. Or It is set up as start-cafe n°1-cafe n°2-back to start all in 1 day. Honestly, I do not see the point of that.

In he MTP I can choose how many km I want to ride when I choose a round trip and where (NE, SE, SW, NW or a adjacent combination with a fixed starting/ending pont) and the program calculates different routes based on my settings: scenery roads, curvy roads, several avoidances like cities, traffic, high ways...) and it lets me include POI which I can choose. Interesting feature when I am on a holiday lets say in France - Metz and when I want to ride every day a different route where start and end are the same like my hotel for instance.

    I included some pictures:

    Starting point (Startpunkt): Metz
Distance I want to ride (Streckenlänge): 90 km for instance
Segment I want to exclude (here the SW) (Suchrichtung)
    Start search (Jetzt suchen)

    " />">

    " />">

And this is what the program proposes:

I can choose up till 5 alternative routes (here you see 2, green and blue, where green is scenery and curvy). You can see the elevation and route description and all the details that you want. So you can understand my frustration in the Trip Planner - Round Trip possibility. Best thing of all, I can directly export it into Mapsource.

Any chance of implementing this in a future version of Basecamp?

The round trip thing really just means that your true ending point and your starting point are the same. However, you have to go somewhere right? So you have a start point.. home. A destination. A camp site. If it is round trip, Trip Planner will then take you home again.

As far as choosing alternate routes, this has been requested before and is known. We are in the process of discussing feasibility. You do have in the current trip planner a way to put in a max time, but a max distance has been requested. We plan on in our NEXT release of doing improvements to Trip Planner, so there will be some feature enhancements on the horizon.
  • Yes, starting and ending point are the same. But I do not have a particular destination for my round trip. I just want to ride lets say 300km in the NW of my start/ending point on scenery (curvy) roads and I want the program to display the landmarks I am interested in e.G, castles, special landmarks worth visiting etc... That is for my understanding a "round trip". I do not need Trip Planner for bringing me from A to B and back to A again. Sorry, but then I do not see the point of implementing a Trip Planner. Bare in mind that Europe is not the same as the States and we have lots of scenery roads here. Most of them can be found on the regional Michelin Maps.
  • Another improvement that I've not seen mentioned!

Insert into Route using right-click on the selected route. This is AWESOME! I stumbled on to this, but it makes route shaping way easier! THANK YOU!

If you fix the waypoint naming convention so that I can have more than one "BP" in my catalog (but not necessarily trip), and tweak the aforementioned (earlier in this thread) search window dropdown for waypoint categories so that it doesn't revert back to "All Points of Interest" every time, I'm not sure what else I'll have to complain about...?

    I'm sure I'll find something.

    Maybe Snap to intersection?... :p

What you could do is set the start and end to the same point. You'll end up with a no-distance route, but then you can add points that you want to see along your way. That would create what you are looking for.
