  • Yes, that's no problem.
If posting screenshots of the map (CN2014.4) and/or of the Basecamp application is fine, then I will attach some pictures of a sample route also.

    Thank you in advance

  • Don't see why not .... There are screenshots like that throughout the forums.

    Ok, thanks.
The reason for my question is, that here at germany some guys hat big trouble with e.g. Google because they had posted screenshots of Google Maps/Earth.

I will now prepare some screenshots before answering more in detail to this thread.

Um, not sure what you mean by "route points". I created a route and inserted a via into it. It had the symbol for City, Small (small green dot). It was NOT a waypoint. That symbol is NOT the default. The default is a small black square. BC uses the ViaSymbol registry setting to determine what symbol to use.

Can you post a screen shot of what you're talking about? How did you insert your via? Steps would be helpful here for me to understand exactly what you mean. I believe what you're seeing, just need to know how to get there so I can either explain it away or open a case :)

I'm not reporting an issue. I'm stating how to do something (change the default via icon to something different).

I'm out of attachment space but I'll try and post a screen capture. Might take a while--just got home and need to do some stuff.

Ok. Here's what I did in BC 4.3.0.1 beta.

    • Selected the Global BaseMap and moved to an area you should be familiar with :)

    • Created two waypoints (A & B), changed their symbols, and created a route between them.

      A-B initial route

    • Selected the Insert Tool and rubber banded the route to insert a Via (NOT a waypoint!).

      A-B rubber band route

    • Clicked on the map to place the Via and complete the route

      A-Via-B route

Now note the symbol at the Via point

    Via Symbol

It is a small green dot or the City, Small symbol. That is NOT the BC default. The default is a small black square. Why? Because I changed the ViaSymbol entry in the Windows registry.

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Garmin\BaseCamp\Settings\Waypoint]
    "ViaSymbol"=hex:45,00,00,00

Here it is again in the Route Properties.

    Route Properties

Again this is NOT A BUG REPORT. I'm demonstrating that an end-user can change the default via symbol. It would be nice if that was a user-selectable option in Options but no big deal (to me).
  • Have you tried changing the ViaSymbol registry setting?

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?1165-via-points-in-MapSource&p=131057&highlight=ViaSymbol#post131057

It's possible the setting has moved from the registry to the user.config file.

PS: My changed ViaSymbol setting (City, Small) is being honored in 4.3.0.1. Just tried it. Now I have a headache :D Creating routes in BC has that effect.

I changed the MapsourceNLD.dll file with resource hacker and replaced the Resource with the black flag png with resource name 4721 and resource language 1033. works fine for me. I hate that small black dot for via points that is almost impossible to see. (did the same in Mapsource)
So in stead of doing it myself it would be nice if one could choose. I only look at one route at a time, so the screen is not cluttered with flags. My Library is very organized otherwise I even wouldn't see the original map any more due to the enormous amount of routes.

I changed the MapsourceNLD.dll file with resource hacker...

That seems like a hard way to do it when all you need to do is edit a Windows registry setting :)

So in stead of doing it myself it would be nice if one could choose.

Well you can edit the registry setting. recalculate your route(s), and voila the via symbol is changed.

I don't know if it will get traction this late in the cycle, but I'll open up being able to change the via point image from within BaseCamp. We have always tried to differentiate between real waypoints vs. route vias that are not associated with real waypoints in this way. It may not make it until the 4.4 or later but I will at least open the case.
  • I'm sure that would be appreciated, thanks.
