Upgraded to 4.2.5 on Windows 7 and lost everything!

Hi all,

I'm kind of freaking out right now. I upgraded to 4.2.5 a few weeks ago, I didn't launch Basecamp after the upgrade, just shut down the computer and forgot about it. I have just started Basecamp as I'm going for a bike ride tomorrow and need to copy an old map across to my Montana 600, and I have lost EVERYTHING! There is no "My Collection" at all, just a library section and a folder named husaberg. Now I ride a husaberg, so that folder must have been created by me I assume but I sure don't remember doing it, and as I say my entire "My Collection" folder is gone. I have hundreds of maps that I have collected over the years and can't find any of them. I run a regular backup from my PC to a QNAP NAS, but it overwrites old data after a month and I'm terrified that the upgrade occurred more than a month ago and I'm dead in the water.

Any help would be very very very very very much appreciated!

Thank you!!!!

Search your entire HD for a file called AllData.gdb.bak

If you find it, note its date stamp. if that is before you updated, you are in luck. If it isn't you may find other instances of the file in earlier editions of BC.
Now, look in that directory, which will be C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\BaseCamp\database\4.2\
Note the size and date stamp of the file Alldata.gdb vs the backup you found. If it is today and is much smaller than the older one, just cut and paste, then rename them to each other's name. (Or make copies for safety). Now restart BC, you should see your old Collection just as you left it a month ago.

Be careful here, I have at least 6 different Alldata.gdb and .gdb.bak in various folders going back a couple of years, so it is REALLY easy to overwrite incorrectly. Make careful note of date stamps and sizes.

Now, about the maps. They ARE still on your machine, but BC doesn't see them. They are in a different place, and if you used third party maps they can be almost anywhere. Try searching for *.img files.

If you find ones that seem to be what yours were named (there will be hundreds of img files, but each one will have its folder listed under it), you are fine. All you have to do is get BC to look in the right place. Unfortunately that is where my knowledge ends. Each third party map has an installer that tells BC where to find the map, and if that link is destroyed the only way I know how to get them back into BC is to re-install them

I'm sure there is a way, but you will have to wait until a master responds. Of course you could get lucky and the replacement of the AllData.gdb file might fix all your problems.;)
You are NOT alone, this has happened to other 4.2.5 users, but that doesn't help much.

In the future, make regular use of the BC Backup command and store the resulting files in some easy to find location, if not a flash drive.

I lost all my routes also and haven't been able to find a solution to get them back.
