Hi first post here, I've been lurking the forum but can not find an answer for my issue. I need to transit for the first time through sections of mountainous rural roads that are very twisty, with lots of crossings and lack of proper signage, were you can get disoriented easily. I want to force the gps unit to show me a predetermined track because the route that it generates automatically between two points is awful.

I created a route with base camp and as I said the roads are very twisty so I had to define lots of waypoints to force the program to create the route that I want. I will not be stopping at those waypoints. The problem is that I run a trial with a route that I know and I noticed that sometimes the unit doesn't give you directions with enough time or distance and you can easily pass one of the waypoints. Sometimes is not until you are exactly on top of one of the waypoint for the unit to draw the route to the next way point. If you use a predetermined track the unit doesn't find a new route for the missed waypoint. How can I program the route so the unit give me advice with enough time or distance.

You might try turning off the alerts for these waypoints (shaping points). Also you might try adjusting your profile settings. What profile are you using and what are your settings? Are you looking for fastest? Best Distance? Sometimes these things make a difference.

Which GPS are you using? I've not experienced an issue with directions coming too late?

Thanks for your responses the unit is the Nüvi 2455 LMT.

Does the unit cares about profiles with the predetermined route? Anyways I will be testing both on the route that I know I will let you know the results.

Yes it cares. The unit will use the predetermined route how ever it was calculated (unless the device recalculates the route). If the device does not recalculate the route, then it will use whatever settings you have set.

With a predetermined route created in basecamp, if I miss a waypoint, the GPS doesn't recalculate/retrace a new route to the missed waypoint or to the next waypoint. It does recalculate/retrace the route if you let the device to create the route for itself. That's why is so important for me to receive directions with enough time/distance when using the route created from basecamp.

By the way after exporting/loading the route from basecamp to the GPS I have to acces the route trough APPS, then TRIPP PLANNER.

Perfect. That is how it should work. Try out a couple of these things and sim. BaseCamp is an application that does a lot of things for a lot of people. What you're doing is pretty specific but I would be hard pressed to find anyone who can't solve most problems, yours included, by poking at settings and doing some advanced stuff. Let me know if you have any other troubles.

Ok tried with different profiles and the route that is generated by either basecamp or the device remains the same (didn't change), so defining just two waypoints to create a route is not an option for me. Again I will get lost since the device doesn't automatically re-routes to a missed waypoint or to the next waypoint when using the trip planner app on the device. Notice that I say "The Device" not basecamp, basecamp is doing its job.

I will stick to create multiple waypoints to force basecamp to create the route that I want. So the issue remains and JM I'm not following you, again basecamp is doing its job, it is the device that's not announcing the next waypoint with enough time/distance when using the trip planner app.

The question is if you can do something in basecamp to force the device to announce waypoints with enough time/distance. The profiles didn't made a difference because I'm using a route that was manually created from basecamp it is not the device auto-creating the route.

I'm afraid not. Basically the device is going to do what it is going to do and we don't really have control on our team over the device. Basically what we can do is read and send data from/to the device but we can't alter the behavior of that device. You might try one of the other forums in which the devices are discussed. There may be someone there who can help you. I apologize that I'm not more help to you.

Unfortunately despite many requests there aren't forums for On the road and On the trail devices. Sure would be nice if there were. Maybe you could ask your colleagues to set them up?

I believe the problem you are having is a shortcoming of your unit. I have a similar unit and what is happening is that your Garmin is treating each waypoint as a complete route and will not show the next leg of the trip until you pass that particular waypoint. Older units do not have that problem and I was told by SUSSAMB that newer units from 2013 on have since fixed that issue and shows and treats the route as a whole. Hope this helps.
