Editing imported GPX files

Hi,

I have a Garmin Touring and want to use it for a long bike 12 day tour cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats. I have downloaded 14 .gpx files which is the route that we are taking for a 14 day trip but we are doing the same ride in 12 days.

What I want to do is edit the imported 14 files into 12 files so we have one file for each day showing our destination at the end of each day as the end of the route. I.e. add a bit from the second day to the first and then save and so on.

I have been playing with Base Camp and I just don't see how to do this.

Please, if anyone can help me with this I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Max
  • First combine the 14 into one. To do so select them all in the lower left hand pane in the order you want them joined, then right click and select join routes.

Now use the split tool to split that route into 12.

Thanks very much Sussamb. That is working nicely.

This may be a little more rudimentary but I just can't work it out. I want to edit the route a little to take it directly to the various places we're staying. How can I do that? When I try to drag the route it just sets straight lines. Is it possible to make a route follow the roads on the map?
  • Is it a route or a track? If a route what activity profile is selected? You should be able to add/insert points so the route goes where you want. Which map are you using in Basecamp though?

It says it's a track. I'm yet to find out the difference I'm afraid. I'm using the Garmin Cycle Map EU 2013.80 that came with my Garmin Edge Touring which I was hoping to give me turn by turn directions as we go.

OK I figures this out. You just have to right click where you want to edit and select Start Quick Route. This will provide you with a pink route via road to wherever you click the mouse. You can then right click the route to invert if necessary and click Create Route from Track. Then you have one track including the new part and you have to rename it. I am getting a bug when trying to rename the track which is pretty frustrating but I am getting there in the end.
