Hundreds of waypoints in Device Favorites?

Hello I've created a custom route (or at least I think I did) by importing a saved gpx file from a map created thru Tyre. (creating custom routes inside BaseCamp is horrible, so I use Tyre).

The route comes in to BaseCamp fine, then I send it to my Nuvi 1100LM device. The map shows up on the Nuvi but in my Favorites is not just the route name, but "ALL" of the hundreds of waypoints. It takes me forever to cycle down to the actual route destination name.

Is there any way to get rid of the waypoints showing in my favorites, once the route is established? I tried deleting them in BaseCamp and it did delete them, but when I send it to the device they are still there?

I'm wondering if the ones still there are from my first send, and (heaven forbid) I have to manually cycle thru and delete them one at a time on the device itself.

Appreciate any input on this.

BTW it's quite possible BC has changed. Since I don't use it to transfer data (directly) to/from my units I don't know.

It's easy enough to see what is sent by looking in the transferred GPX file(s). If you see <wpt ...> tags then Waypoint(s) are being sent (as per my example above). If they're absent they're not. QED :)

What your device does with the GPX file(s) is a whole other issue.
  • Yes I did check the .gpx file, the waypoints were certainly sent.

You could just delete them from any route GPX file(s) until/if the option is added to BC to not send them :)
  • Simpler just to remove them from the list prior to sending the route, or copy the route to an empty list, that way they're not included.

How do you get custom map data to your device? Are you saying that you use a different map edit or capture software that will copy the data to your device?

Well that's definitely true from my own experimentation.

    =====================
    I have two more questions:
    (1) When creating a route from scratch in BaseCamp, I've learned to use my arrow keys to move on while clicking map via points. Otherwise if I click PAN then it stops the current route and I have to start another route. BUT . . . . can anyone tell my how I can ZOOM without losing my current route?

Granted I can join selected routes if I have more than one, but when I do this it automatcatically recalculates and foobars the route into a mess of loops that gives inconsistent results when I go back and attempt to erase the loops out of the route.

    (2) I've been checking out reviews on all the models that have multi-point routing and only a few of these come without TRAFFIC updating and they are larger than the size I want for my motorcycle. I keep reading bad reviews on the functionality of the TRAFFIC updates and they deter from the screen giving useless or no data at all many times. What kind of experience have you guys had with the TRAFFIC.

    Is it functional ?

Can it be turned off so it doesn't show if desired ?

I'm looking strongly at purchasing the Nuvi 2455LMT 4.3-Inch. It has everything I need but at a price that goes along with my current situation.

I've no idea how custom maps entered into this discussion. Custom maps can't be used for routing (at all) so... Also nuvi's don't support custom maps. Many Outdoor models do however.

FYI nuvi's aren't intended for motorcycle use. That's what the Zumo line is for.

As to your other questions I think they belong in a new thread,

Ok my bad on terminology, I meant custom routes, which is what the very first post which started this thread was about. I am the OP.

Thanks for the politically correct information. Now FYI 90% of the motorcycle world (and I know a lot of them) use Nuvis with a water proof case. Some of um just put a plastic sandwich bag over it in the rain. Never once heard of one failing. A very small percentage of riders will buy a Zumo, usually guys with more money, but not always. Check just about any bike forum for this info.

Well I don't see why, I was getting some good information about which Nuvi's had multi-point routing prior to now. Don't see why someone wouldn't want to give me input on their traffic experience.
  • To zoom without losing focus on a tool use the mouse wheel or the + - keys (keyboard of number pad).

Using a ctrl-arrow will cause a larger shift when panning. The Overview Map on the View toolbar can also be used. It will open a small window. When the cursor is place within the window, it will change to the Pan cursor (hand) and is used the same way. The shaded area represents what is visible in the larger Map window. The Overview Map can be toggled on/off as needed without changing focus from a tool.

If you already have a series of Waypoints outlining your route, you may wish to bypass zooming/panning altogether. Place all the Waypoints in one list and select that list. Open the Find Options from the Find Menu or ctrl+alt+f. Opt for User Data and Search. Only the User Data in the selected List will appear in the Find Results. Right Click on a Waypoint and choose Show on Map. It should center and zoom in on the object. If you are adjusting route points have the Route selected in the lower left Pane and the Move Tool selected and proceed down the list. If you are building a route by clicking on the map, use the insert tool. If the Waypoints are not named in an obvious sequential manner, then use Refresh Find Results to resort the Waypoints by proximity after adding a point to the route. Or Zoom out until you see the number of the next Waypoint to add.
  • Thanks BTLAAKE, for that enlightening info! Much appreciated.
