i am relatively new to Basecamp and having problems with the route planning. Using the 'New Trip' function, i put in my departure point and my end point. However, all i get on my map (in this case Bulgaria downloaded from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ into Basecamp) is a straight line between Bucharest and Sozopol!

Help please!

A couple of questions: Do you have "Direct" set as your route profile? Are you using a proper map as in from a device or BaseCamp's Base Map? Some maps are not navigable, so they will only produce a straight line.

thank for your response.
I am using a map from Garmin OSM which i imported to BC.

i cannot find any reference to 'Direct' in BC - where can i find it?!

Found it - I am in Driving mode.

Then your osm map isn't routeable.

it is routable. the problem appears to be the distance between the points. shorten the distance between waypoints and it seems to work fine.

AGBUCKS,

OSM maps compiled for Garmin have a huge number of shaping points (the real ones) per given length of road. At about 400km there are too many for BaseCamp to use between Via points. You will find this on other OSM Garmin maps as well so just be in the habit of adding Via Points--as you discovered.
