Change waypoint appearance on Map

No matter what icon I give to waypoints they always appear as Blue pins on my Oregon 600 map - can this be changed?

I upload the day's track to Basecamp. It appears as a magenta line with black dots for the points (via points I would guess?)

    Stuart here :D

You can change the via point symbol, in BaseCamp. The method was linked to in another post by me (in response to you). Here it is again.

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?1165-via-points-in-MapSource&p=131057#post131057

Hmmm...all the via points on that new route are orange flags.

Again. Not all models support all symbols. Many don't support the small black square. Why? Ask Garmin.

The trick is to use symbols, for waypoints AND via's, that BOTH BaseCamp and your devices support. I use City (small) which is a small green dot.

Now my 1490T shows Orange Flags in an ACTIVE route (i.e. one you're currently navigating). I don't think that can be changed.

    Stuart,

Well the thread is four pages long...and I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

I did find a reply that talked about changing the via display in regedit. So when to regedit on my laptop and friends laptop...both are exactly the same.

    I'll keep reading.

Backed out of a day's off road riding today, cuz I'm trapped in my PC figuring this out...

    I did some more reading.

copied this from the noted link:

In my case ViaSymbol is set to 12,00,00,00 (eWptDot) but I'm not sure if that's the default or something I changed long ago and forgot.

That's what both PCs are set to.

His Nuvi 550 is nearly new. My Zumo 665 is about 5 years old.

But, when I convert a track to a route, then upload it to both GPS units...all the via points are orange flags.

But if I upload the track to my PC, then convert to a route, then upload to my Zumo...the via points are "invisible".

    Huh?

That is the default for both BaseCamp and MapSource. eWptDot is the small black square.

Hmm, for most they're Blue Flags (in inactive routes).

...then upload to my Zumo...the via points are "invisible".

Well some Zumo's do things a bit differently. For example newer Zumo's implement "Shaping Points" which other models don't.

If the Zumo line behaves as a mass storage device and receives uploads as .gpx files, then you should look at the uploaded .gpx files on the device sent from the two PCs. You can open them with a text editor like Notepad. You could also post the two files here if you're not sure what to look for/at.
