I've just updated my nuvi3597LMT with the latest map update of City Navigator Europe. It shows up in BaseCamp asCity Navigator Europe NTU 2014.40 whilst in Windows Add/Remove Programmes list it's shows as City Navigator Europe (Unicode) 2014.40
In all the updates that I have undertaken in the past few years (Zumo 660 and now the nuvi in addition) I have never seen 'U' given in the map title or even Unicode given in the Windows list. What's it supposed to signify - anyone know?

Yep, it's tied in with being able to read some alphabets, don't worry about it :)

To add to what SUSSAMB said Unicode is a standard to allow non-latin alphabet (A-Z) languages to be used with computers (GPS'es are small computers). Many countries in Europe have such languages.

Based on that then, I'm guessing that all previous updates were also Unicode but simply didn't appear in the title like now.

I'm not sure but I think there used to be two versions: Latin & Unicode.

All this can make a difference when searching for city names, POI's etc. Rather than using a Latin equivalent one can use the native languages spelling. At least that's the theory :D
