Merging databases (alldata.gdb)

Hello,

We have at home 2 PC's (my wife and myself) and in our RV a 3rd PC. All running Win7 and Basecamp.
My issue is merging both alldata.gdb stored on the 2 home PC's in order to obtain a unique one on the RV PC with all tracks.

What can I do ?

Regards from Belgium

Felix

If the OP exports the database from home computer #1 to the RV computer, then exports the database from home computer #2 to the RV computer, won't that just overwrite the first import on the RV computer, not merge the two?

I would think that if he exported and imported the database with the larger size onto the RV computer first and then used a flash drive with a \Garmin\GPX subdirectory on it to transfer the other set of tracks, waypoints, and routes from computer #2 just as if it was a GPS it would in fact merge the two home databases.

It kind of depends on whether there is any unique data on the RV computer that he wants to save. If so, then the flash drive transfer technique could be used to merge all three sets of data on the RV computer.
  • I believe the import will merge rather than overwrite, but sending all the data to a flash drive would also work.

I don't think so....every time I update my database on my travel tablet from the home laptop, I get a message something like " All data will be lost, etc"

Oops..... duh, you are saying Export/Import and I'm saying Backup/Restore....:rolleyes:

If I remember correctly, if you export My Collection in its entirety, the List Structure will not be saved in the resulting *.gpx file.....this is only done by the Backup/Restore function, which is the way I sync my two computers.

So I believe that if the OP wants to preserve or update his List Structure on the RV computer, he can either export and import ONE list at a time, or he can sit down with all three computers next to each other, decide exactly how he wants the List Structure to look like on the RV computer, manually create and/or rename those lists, then use the flash drive to dump the various contents of his lists on the other two computers into the correct lists on the RV computer. That was why my initial suggestion was to pick the largest (or best) database on the two computers and use that as the starting restore point on the RV computer then add the stuff on #2 computer via the send and receive by flash drive method. This might save a LOT of time.

Either way, rather a PITA.
