Does BaseCamp include an estimation of the hiking time based on distance, altitude?

Hello,

I just bought a new Garmin Fenix and would like to know if BaseCamp provides a tool to estimate a hiking route time, based for instance on distance + altitude difference?

This would be great.

Thanks for any answer :)

I'm not sure that any estimate, from BaseCamp or other, would be very useful since so many factors affect hiking time (trail grade, fitness level, type of terrain etc).

Where I live the hiking trails average about a 13% grade (steeper in some areas) --or about 700ft of elevation gain per mile. Now *I* average a bit over 1 mph on those trails based on many track logs of actual hikes. That said on flat ground I average about 3.6 mph.

What BaseCamp can, with the right maps, provide is a total distance and an elevation profile. From that you should be able to estimate a time specific to you.

    Hi StuartMW,

    Thanks for the quick answer.

I don't know exactly how they do it, but there is a website in Switzerland where they estimate the time needed if the route follows known paths. Maybe by experience as you did.

Anyway, I'll either use the combination of this website and BootCamp, or calculate the estimation by myself.
