I bought a GARMIN nuvi 40 a month ago. So far, I am using it inside the city only (in France).
I noticed that when it calculates the path, it always uses the principal routes (highlighted routes).
I changed the calculation method in navigation settings (the shortest path, the shortest time), it always uses highlighted routes, despite the existence of secondary routes as shorter path.
PS: I deactivated all bypasses.
