RESTORING DATA LIST FILE - did not work

Here is the problem.
I had reorganised and sorted all my tracks, routes, waypoints into categories.. blah blah blah, and I was finally getting somewhere with swapping my data between BC, a Montana 650t and my Nuvi 775t.

To fine tune my BC installation I thought I would remove the older maps and install the latest updates.. ["bad idea"]

I uninstalled the older versions.

I ran the mapupdate.exe and installed the latest 2014 maps on my Nuvi and PC, first for the EU (western europe only)

and then NA (US and Canada and Alaska only)..

but when I returned to see the progress of the NA installation the PC had gone back to the logon page of windows...

OMG I thought "what had happened.?".

I logged on and opened BC..

then I received Garmin's version of the windows' "blue screen of death".. Message reading "restoring - data list file".....

which I left to run for about an hour or so, and then clicked the red cross (cancel)..

BC opened showing a version of my contents from way back long before I re-organised all my contents and downloaded birdseye imagery... all work done and contents down/uploaded to BC since June last year was gone.

Aha I thought.. I have a monthly backup of my "C: drive" so I can restore the database files.. and luckily the last backup was done earlier that day...

but after restoring the DB and opening BC again.. I again got the "restoring - data list file".. message

so I reinstalled BC 4.2.5 and restored the DB folder again..

I opened BC > same problem..

So Q.
is it really the BC DB file that has a problem or could it be the same message for something else.?
is there a way to fix the DB file outside of BC.?
is there another file in another location somewhere else which also needs to be restored at the same time as the DB file.?

can anyone help with any more ideas or suggestions..??? please.. "please with a cherry on top.."

other than do a backup of BC contents B4 doing a map install or uninstall.. which I did not think was really necessary...

help please
Cheers

  • I take it the map install went OK, it's simply that you don't have your 'current' database? This should mean that your latest Basecamp version is looking somewhere different so hopefully your previous 'good' database still exists on your PC.

I'd search your hard drive for FolderData.gfi. That will show you where any database files will be. You should be able to determine which was the one that was last updated prior to you updating everything, and that will tell you where your last 'good' database was. Make a note of where on your PC it is, then run Basecamp and go to Edit, Options, General and click on the plus sign to add a database. Browse to the location and select it. That should then load the correct one.
