Transferring routes, adventures, tracks, whatever..

Hi,

Which models support the ability to transfer routes? I can't find anywhere that tells me. I was happy with my 42LM until I discovered the BaseCamp software and the brilliant features it has, then found my 42LM basically supports none of them. I like the ability to create routes and upload them so much that I'm going to buy a replacement unit, but nowhere can I find that list that confirms which models I ought to look at.
  • Any of the Garmin models where under specs it says something other than Trip planner - No. Of the current line up this is anything other than the basic series.

Thanks, by 'basic' series I assume this means the 'Essential' range? I found the trip planner spec way down the bottom of the comparison option - looks like I'll be picking up a nüvi® 2497LMT tomorrow!! And I already know who will appreciate my 1 week old 42LM.

Gotta say it would be kinda good if BaseCamp told me 'your device isn't compatible with this' when I tried to drag a route to a 42LM. Or better, if there was a compatibility list somewhere, or, well, anything at all really. But the 42LM was very low price and very very good at what it is made for. I just reallllly like the Adventures idea and must get into that.

    thanks for the quick help!
  • Currently it's called the Essential range ... but it's not always been so :)

I agree 100%. The ability of a device to work with Basecamp and/or Map Source is essential to how I use a GPS. Now that there are approximately 732 different Garmin devices on the market it's much more difficult to determine the drawbacks of each until you try to use whichever one you bought.

I also had to iterate; several drawbacks to the Nuvi I ordered the first time -- now it's my backup spare.

That's simply not true. The information is there on the specs sheet of nuvis/zumos. You just need to research what you're buying and not simply assume it'll do whatever you want. This list though may help http://gpstracklog.com/2010/05/dissecting-the-garmin-nuvi-series.html
