Where can I find where BaseCamp automatically saves routes, in case my data is still somewhere I can save, before I reinstall BaseCamp - telephone tech support doesn't know what I'm talking about.
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin (this is the parent default Basecamp data directory location for windows-7)
Note: Entering %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database (into windows search ~ the search which appears after clicking on the windows start button in taskbar) will/should take you there. (you may have also created a backup at sometime which would look something like this: BaseCamp 2013-11-05.backup (do a search for basecamp*.*)
If you find it: To be safe I suggest you copy (not move) everything to another directory like C:\_GPS\BaseCamp4 (After installing Basecamp, there's a setting where you can change the default location under options.)
I'd also suggest you use the Basecamp "backup" feature to save your data now and then. Save it to another location, maybe USB flash drive, external backup, different hard drive location.

Here is another possibility.
Years ago, before Express, I let BaseCamp do an auto update. It put a new icon on my desktop and I deleted the old icon. I double clicked the new icon and the new BaseCamp opened with all of my tracks missing. I did not have very much data in it so I just shrugged it off and started over.
Months later I accidently found out why my data was missing. I right clicked the icon > Properties > Short Cut tab > Start In : > and saw that the new updated program had been installed in my Backup E: drive. It had been running in E: drive ever since the last update. I checked Program Files on my C: drive and there was the older version of BaseCamp with all my missing tracks. A very nice surprise.
Explore your drives, backup partitions, whatever, for a second copy of BaseCamp. Maybe you will find a nice surprise too. :cool:
