First, the new update to Google Earth includes new Sept. 2013 imagery (in my region.) It's so crisp I can actually see (in some instances) people and farm animals. ~Huge difference here between this and BirdsEye.
The historical imagery is very useful. "Luck of the draw", some of this imagery is taken in the fall, showing foliage & hardwoods regions.... (My primary reason for using Google Earth.)
If I "export" and import .GPX files from Basecamp all tracks display correctly in Google Earth. (show up with correct colors as paths)
If I "view selected items in Google earth" (without exporting) a single track, that seems to work OK in terms of the tracks color, but certain tracks always end up displayed as "points" and "paths." (lots of points)
Selecting different "quantities" of tracks yields different results on tracks. (Sometimes the effected tracks display the correct color, other times they don't. The tracks that appear as "points" and "paths" always appear this way, but their coloring is not always the same. Other tracks that never appear as both "points" and "paths" sometimes are correctly colored, other times they are white.
In the Google Earth Temp places: Under tracks there are two sub components: "points" & "paths" Some tracks (that display properly "point-wise") nave no points showing on the map. Others have one beginning point showing and that's it. And others have "tons" of points. I did notice several things: 1.) Selecting all points and "clamping them to ground" in Google Earth kind of fixes the display issue. (Hides the points, and fixes the track color problem.) ~ Even so, these points are there on some tracks, but not others. 2.) Some of the points are show width attributes of .9 instead of 1.0.
The points are actually there, but they are somehow hidden. I get the feeling this is a layering issue where either Basecamp (or Google Earth) isn't placing these points at the proper level. ~ And I can't find any way to control/change this.
(Although the coloring anomaly, and the sizing is another issue, possibly related.)
Notes:
If I highlight 1/2 dozen tracks and use "View selected items in Google Earth" the point problem shows up on some tracks but the colors are correctly displayed on the other tracks without the point problem.
If I highlight a bunch of tracks and use "View selected items in Google Earth", not only does the point problem appear on some tracks , but SOME of the RED tracks (without the point problems) don't show the correct color. They are white instead of red.
The only "commonality" is that the tracks that show up as/with points displaying as big "black/white dots" always seem to be the same ones, and the track color changes to white. (Viewing them individually in Google Earth results in the point problem, but the color of the track ("path" in Google Earth) is correctly displayed.) I suppose there may be no way to discern whether this is a Basecamp issue, or a Google Earth issue unless you're a Basecamp Developer...... Nevertheless, something is wrong here!
Here's a screen capture. Notice the tracks with, and without points showing. (They were all "View selection in Google Earth'd'', together in one batch. Selecting a larger quantity results in most tracks displaying in white instead of red.)
Note: Tracks colored dark cyan never seem effected for whatever reason, although I don't have many colored that way so this may just be attributed to "luck and frequency." ~ No dark cyan tracks not shown here in this screen capture.
