If, in BaseCamp, I go to File > New, I have the option of creating a route. I also have the option of creating a route by using the top menu Trip Planner. So what's the difference, other than being able to add things such as time of departure etc, and will a route created using one method be treated any differently to a route created in the alternative method when sent to my Nuvi 3597?
Just as a route contains more information than a track, I suspect that trips created with Trip Planner will contain even more information than similar routes, and as such, trips will be treated as trips, routes as routes, and tracks as tracks.

Thanks but that doesn't help at all in explaining what the difference is. For instance, using the File > New > Route method I can click on a start point and on an end point at which time BaseCamp will scribe out a route. If I don't particularly like it I can rubber band it to a road(s) that are more to my suiting. Using the Trip Planner method I can use a Waypoint as both my start and end points but if my route starts at the bottom of my road and end up at a dead end (the sea for example) then I don't really need Waypoints. Like the previous method I can also rubber band the route if I so wish. Trip Planner also allows for me to enter maximum driving time and start times etc both of which are really pointless in my view. That's besides the point, however, because my question is essentially what are the differences (if any) between the two routes that are eventually created and sent to my Nuvi 3597? Are they treated the same way when Exported to the Nuvi in which case this would allow me to forget all about Trip Planner?
You are not creating a Route in Trip Planner, you are creating a Trip. They are not the same. How each GPSr will process the information will depend on each GPSr firmware. Perhaps you could make a quick test route and similar test trip, send both, and report how they work on the nuvi 3597?
I have always thought of this as tracks are where you have been, routes are where you are going, and a Trip is an ordered collection of routes based on calendar days. Does that help?

I am trying to locate the original link that explained this to me some time ago, so I can share here. Perhaps a Garmin employee will step in and bless us all with a current explanation? FALAGAR? .....FALAGAR? .....Anyone? ...Anyone?
Trip Planner enables creating and viewing ROUTES (including via points and Waypionts) in context with an Itinerary. The actual route data created with the Trip Planner is no different than the same route created outside the Trip Planner. The Trip Planner apparently stores meta data in the Trip "container" about the Route that was created. For example, change the NAME of the route outside of the Trip Planner and you no longer have a viable route for that day in the Trip Planner.
