Sorry for digging a 10 year old thread. I just got one of these nuvi 3597.
I exported from google maps to gpx, and wanted to import to the nuvi.
Tried putting the gpx on gpx folder, but on internal memory and sd card, the device can't see it.
Tried with basecamp, the same.
Tried converting in basecamp to route, when the nuvi boots it says it can't save the route.
Can you help?
Not all gpx files are the same. If you want to be sure it will work import the original to BaseCamp. Check it's a route and not a track as your nuvi can't handle tracks. Send the route from BaseCamp to your nuvi. Note there are limitations on the number of points in a route on your nuvi, if you exceed them it will create problems
Thank you for taking the time to answer me. First of all I installed Garmin's city navigator map on the computer using garmin express. I imported the gpx to basecamp, converted it to route, using automobile profile. Tried sending both to internal memory and external, via garmin basecamp, unfortunately neither one nor other work.
Regarding the name of point, when converting to route, it asks how many points and I click on auto or something like that.
I have been dealing with etrex, gpsmaps, dakotas, edge, never in life had this issue
That'll probably be the issue, etrex etc can handle more points in a route, and by clicking on auto you probably have a route with hundreds of points. Your device can only cope with 30 points in a route. The only sensible way when trying to match an imported track, which you appear to have done, is create a start and end point corresponding to the start and end of the track. Now let BaseCamp create a route using those 2 points. Then rubber band it as necessary to make your route follow the imported track and send that route to your device. Note too your device may struggle if the route is a very long one, over hundreds of miles, if so you will need to break it up into stages.
