Basecamp won't open, says .NET Framework 1.0 not installed

At work we finally got updated to Windows 7, so I installed the newest version of Basecamp. It wouldn't open, saying that it required .NET Framework 3.5. (Our system had 4.0 installed).

So I installed 3.5. Now Basecamp tries to open, and then reports that .NET Framework 1.0 is not installed. I've checked that 3.5 is fully turned on (subheading Windows Communication Foundation HTTP and Non-HTTP Foundations are checked).

There is no separate 1.0 available that can be installed on Windows 7 64-bit. Both the folks at Garmin and our HelpDesk can't figure this out.

Any suggestions?
  • Not sure how you installed .NET 3.5 or where you got it from but it should be SP1 (Service Pack 1).

On my Win7 x64 machine this program

    http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html

    reports the following

    4.0.30319.18408

.NET framework is strange in that not all versions include full support for prior versions. (I did some researching on this topic recently, but can't remember which ones "overlap" and which ones don't. ~ Not all versions are "cumulative updates.")
I personally don't care for .NET whatsoever, but much software is written to "take advantage" of the preexisting code. (IMO, the last thing Windows needs is/are more dependencies "to break"/cause problems!)

Me either but unfortunately a lot of software (Garmin's and others) is now written in .NET :( Everyone has quad-core processors, 16GB of RAM and 1TB hard disks right?

Yeah, no kidding! Technology is "out of control" and much is due to a lack of acceptable "quality control."
So many "sandwiched layers" in the "Microsoft Windows Club Sandwich" that when you squish it, everything comes out the sides.
The irony is: Just when you think they were finally "getting Windows right with Win-7" they jumped ship to Windows 8.....

Coming from "DOS", I haven't been very impressed with any of the MS OS, until Windows-7. Windows 8: Have it, but don't use it. Maybe on a tablet, but not a desktop/notebook.

PS: I'm quite familiar with nearly all the MS OS's since DOS 3.3. (As for "Windows", I've spent significant time working in/on each version, including most of the server OS's too.)

I like that analogy. Can I steal it? :D

I started with PC-DOS 2.11 but that's not saying much :) In fact I have most versions of DOS & Windows (up to Vista) in Virtual Machines.

PS: No Win 8.x here and no plans to ever get it. I deliberately got a new machine with Win7 x64 before Win8 was released.

    I downloaded 3.5 SP1 from Microsoft.

When I try to open Basecamp, I get an error detected message that tells me that 1.0 is not installed, and that 1.1, 2.0(sp2), 3.0(sp2) and
    3.5(sp1) are installed.

No idea. As you can see I don't have .NET 1.0 installed and BC 4.2.4 works fine.

As TRAKBAK said .NET sometimes "has issues".

    Most certainly, use the analogy.

And with regards to buying a new Win-7 machine: I did the exact same thing this past spring before Windows-7 becomes "unavailable." (HP Elitebook 8770w) ~ Tons of RAM & 500gb ssd's.

    What's wrong with Windows 8?

I have one desktop with Win8 and I don't have any issues. It boots straight to the Desktop so it's basically just Win7 with a few nice improvements.

I have actually started to find that using the Start Screen as a Start Menu replacement has some benefits, too. I don't use any Metro apps and have removed them all.

Plenty IMO! (In terms of the UI unless you're on a tablet "consuming entertainment")..... Working a keyboard and a mouse is enough. (I already need a third hand in order to run at "full speed" and I'm not going to give that up.) With Windows-8 necessitating the usage of a touch screen mounted horizontally (in a notebook/desktop scenario) to "get full functionality" is ridiculous. At that angle, it's not "user friendly" or even close to being "ergonomically correct." Besides, I'm already short a 3'rd hand. Most "power users" (and many if not most developers) share a similar viewpoints.

~Now if I could train my feet/toes to type 70wpm, that would be a different scenario.....
