Hello. I have a Garmin Oregon 650. I have purchased a Topo24k West via Download. Seem great everything is working fine for the last 2 months. For some reason Garmin BaseCamp is giving me an error saying that its unable to read my Topo24k from my SD Card. The size of my SD Card is 4g.

My Garmin Oregon 650 is reading the Topo24k just fine. No problems there. Just when I open Basecamp for some strange reason basecamp can not read my Topo24k

I am using Windows 7 64bit

I am hoping someone will be able to help me on this?

Run JaVaWa Device manager ... click on Manage maps, is your topo map showing in the list that appears? If so, does it show the Basecamp roundel, it will be about in the middle of the line? If not that's why Basecamp isn't seeing the map. Click on the line to select it then click on the Basecamp roundel top left that says 'Visible in Basecamp'. The Basecamp roundel should now show against your map and it show now be visible in Basecamp.

Ok I did what you asked and I'm still getting the error. Here are the steps i have done. I also upload a picture for you. Just copy the link and put in your browser.

    1. Clicked on Manage Maps - Memory Stick
    2. Box open up. Noticed that Top24k_West.img. Notice three icons.
    1. This file resides in folder H:\Garmin this is my memory stick
    2. This map is routable
    3. The items in this file is available in basecamp

Yes everything your asking is there. I load up basecamp and now im getting this error still

"An error occurred when attempting to use the TOPO U.S.24k West Map Product."

Here is a link to the picture I took of everything. Includes error

BaseCamp caches maps on a device/SD card. It could be the cache has been corrupted. Try (with BC closed) deleting all the files in

    C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\CardProductCache

BC will rebuild the cache when you reopen it (may take a while).

Yes. Copy the Top24k_West.img file to a Garmin folder on a removable drive (e.g. card reader) that is plugged into your computer. If you copy the \Garmin\GarminDevice.xml file as well BC will see that removable drive as your device. Some of us do that ("clone" our device(s)) for firmware/map updates etc.

I won't be able to hike until next spring/summer. About 10" of snow outside right now. I had to shovel it twice today :(
  • thank you for your response. I did down load JaVaWa. Not sure what I'm supposed to do with this. BaseCamp still not loading my TopoMap

    Do this.
