I am trying to transfer birdseye images from my unlisted data to my sd card on my Oregon 450T. It says it transfers and I can see it in my user data list for the sd card. Every time I un-hook the gps from the computer and turn it on to see if the transfer worked I can't see it. I plug it back to the computer and the user data is empty again. How do I fix this?
  • Did you or do you have a valid subscription for your Oregon?
  • Have you created the correct folder on the card?

If it's like the Montana, you have to go into map setup on the GPS and make sure that the BirdsEye "map" is enabled. (All the imagery you download is grouped together under one "map", so it's an "all or nothing" choice) ~ Until you have enabled the map, it may not be visible on the unit's display..... (But I think it always shows up on basecamp when looking at data on the chip regardless of whether a "map" has been enabled on the GPS.)

Also, you may have to create the following directory structure on the chip before transfer: \Garmin\BirdsEye
(Once transferred by Basecamp, all the .jnx files are sent to the \Garmin\BirdsEye directory on my Montana 650.)

Yes I have a birdseye folder inside the garmin folder on the sd card. The birdseye folder is empty on the card after I disconnect the unit from my computer, and the user data changes to empty in basecamp.

Interesting, but how do you know the birdseye folder is empty on the chip after you have disconnected it from the computer? The fact that it shows in Basecamp only when the unit is connected and Birdseye is looking at the chip data implies that the BirdsEye imagery data (.jnx files) is/are in fact on the chip. (You checked map settings on the GPS to make sure the Birdseye "map" is enabled?)

You are right, I can't see it on the chip while I have it disconnected. I can see the birdseye images I have in the memory ,but not from the card. Then I plug it back in and basecamp user data is empty and I check the card and birdseye folder is empty. All of my other birdseye downloads are fine just the card won't work. I tried putting some maps on from GPSFileDepot and they go on the card but don't work either.

I presume you've already checked the chip for file/data errors? ~ Try a different chip. (preferably w/lower storage capacity)
  • Something is very strange here. I've heard of data on cards not being read correctly but never data simply disappearing. Are you sure you're sending the files to the card? Are you able to read the card any other way, eg a card slot on your PC or through a card reader? If so what do you see on the card? Try sending the BirdsEye files to it when it's not in your Oregon. Check the files are there and then put the card into your GPS. Does it now read the BirdsEye files?

Note that map files sent to the card need to be in the Garmin folder, is that where you put them?

I think my card is bad. I placed it in my card reader and couldn't find it on my computer. I put an old card from my Delorme with maps on it and it showed up just fine. I'll get a new 16gb card and see what happens. Thanks everyone for all of your help. I'll get back if it doesn't work.

I'd try reformatting it before tossing it.....
