OK, I have a 530hcx. Now I know it won't do satelite images, Thats OK, I have the Topo for it and works good. BUT, I want to view, like Googal Earth Images and make/plan routes to take in the Backcountry. Is there a way I can see that in Basecamp to make a route to send to my Rino Topo map? I can make a route on GE, but cant seem to send to Basecamp. There's gotta be a way right?
I really don't want to overlay maps onto my Rino, Well that would be cool, BUT, I would need detail. The google method you showed looks like it;s for small area's? I am a Back Country Mountain Snowmobiler. I really just need to be able to make a manual trail/multiple waypoints at medows and such I see on Google Earth view. Then when were up there, We can find trails through the trees to connect the dot's so to speak.
The regular Topo view I have on my Rino is good, only have a 2g uSD in there as it is. But if even waypoints, or made tracks on GE and able to send the points/tracks only to my Rino?
Garmin, you make this so difficult!!! I've paid a lot of money to you, please make this easier without having to upgrade devices or change this file to that to this code etc.
Thx for that lovely response. Yes I researched and yes they said I can make tracks and DL to my device. It's easy. Well it's not that easy. I have now figured it out after 3 days of searching. Need another conversion program. Really, Garmin could make it a lot easier and all into one on Basecamp. Mapsource used to be so easy, but it's no longer. The price we pay for these and the Maps etc, suppirt and the Software user interface should be a heck of a lot easier. Especially for something as simple as marking your proposed route via a good pic(ie Sat Image), to put on your low res GPS screen. Not have to convert this file to that file then import and yada yada yada.
You said you wanted to view Google Earth (or similar) imagery in Basecamp. Or at least that's what I thought you said...
BUT, I want to view, like Googal Earth Images and make/plan routes to take in the Backcountry. Is there a way I can see that in Basecamp
I described a way to do that. It is not an "overlay", actually it's an "underlay" that will appear behind the roads and other features. Yes the basic Google Earth technique is only suited to small maps. That's why I suggested topofusion as well as visiting the custom maps forum here. A variety of other programs have been discussed there. They automate the process of making large maps of this type.
