Looking for Basecamp download files...

I had my computer motherboard die on me a few days ago. Bought a new one and was loading my applications. I have 3G air cards but the signal strength is poor where I am. I had to go to my daughters to download the new 2014.2 map and the 4.2.4 BaseCamp. I first tried to download the map with my air cards and was getting errors. Probably due to the poor signal.

I was unsure how 4.2.4 was running but knew that 4.2.3 was good and wanted to download 4.2.3. I found threads that were suppose to link to 4.2.3 but they only pointed to 4.2.4. So I downloaded 4.2.4 and crossed my fingers that it would run right. So far no problem, but it will be mid January when we start to travel again.

I did download 4.2.4 and save it on my hard drive in case I had a computer failure again next year. I would like to see a place that we could go to and download any version we wanted rather than the most updated one. This is because in some cases I would like to make sure I have a version that works the way I need before I install a new update.

Also does anyone know how to download the newest maps and save them on a hard drive or CD Rom so that it can be reinstalled if no internet or a poor internet is the only access. Most GPS's have LTM included with the purchase of the GPS.

BTW what's up with this image verification?? So far I have had a problem entering this damn thing to make a thread. It is difficult to read...

Just download the maps to a clone, I do it every time http://www.poi-factory.com/node/39231

As for the captchas, it's an attempt to reduce spam but lots is still getting through and being deleted by mods.
  • I use the Javawa GMTK tool to save all my maps to an external harddisk from where I can easily restore any map to any PC, complete with unlock codes if any. Works absolutely flawless.

  • OP was talking about downloading then saving, but I agree, if the maps are already on your PC or mac then GMTK is the way to back them up :)

    Tip: Awesome Mapping Software....

Just a tip for those who wish to make their own maps from downloaded data sources: MAPWEL (for Windows)
This is by far the best (and most enjoyable) mapping program I have ever encountered. It can do some magical things: http://www.mapwel.net/
It can combine maps/layers, generate maps, import and convert the data (kmz/kml etc.) into high speed maps (not .jpegs or overlays, it creates the good kind of maps) that can be installed to Basecamp & also your GPS.....

You can shade the maps or add patterns to the areas etc to keep them mostly transparent... Imports, conversions etc..... It does quite a few other things too that I can't recall at the moment. After I found this program, honestly I stopped looking for software and pre-existing maps. ~ Instead I began looking for "data" to convert! Haven't used it in a while though, as my GPS is all setup.

PS: There is now both a 32bit and 64bit version of Mapwel.

I have used Mapwel for many years and often recommend it to people who are just starting. It is arguably the most user friendly program, and includes its own compiler and custom types (user defined styles) editor so you can do everything without additional software. I got the advanced version since the basic version will only make maps for a single GPS and can't export tiles for Mapsource/Basecamp. Haven't used it for awhile though.

My maps have gotten very complex now so I use Globalmapper and cgpsmapper. I also use Filemaker Pro do do some complex processing of the data.

Thank you... All the replies are what I was looking for. If I can backup my map it would be desirable also.. I also like the FTP site for all the apps. Great information and very helpful.

    Thanks again.

I still don't like the Captchas.. This is the only forum I know that requires them... Real PITA....
