What the heck is up with this Captcha crud!!!!????

You have to be logged in to post to this forum, this has been enough in the past and for every other forum I'm a member of.

Administrator, just because you have a new option doesn't mean it needs or should be used!

Obviously they have given up on the usual methods of deleting spam on the forum. Spammers have really taken this place over - in the mornings every forum has been filled with spam until the mods come in to delete it. The captcha's has certainly gotten the problem under control, which is good.

Maybe they just need more moderators? I'm a mod over at GPSReview, and the four of us are able to keep it spam free most of the time. But it requires constant attention. So I certainly appreciate the problem. But if you MUST use captcha's, how about some kind that we can actually READ? I only have about a 50% chance of getting it right the first time. Or maybe there's a way to create a "whitelist" of known "real" forum members so we don't have to suffer through this nonsense?

I'm getting pretty reluctant to respond to posts and help people now, this new system is just too much of a pain.

I agree 100%! On the other side: It's almost becoming "not worth even asking the questions."

Also, something keeps forcing me to close my browser and re-login. Very frustrating. I get through a post edit and hit the submit button.... All I get is "page not available." ~ So I have to use history to get back to my submission, copy it to the clipboard, close the browser, log back in, find the thread and repast my post.... (Not a problem on other forums, and never a problem here before.)

~About to hit the submit button.... Hoping it works..... (I can't help but wonder if these two issues are related.) ~ System indicates I'm still logged in, but I cannot post without closing the browser and re-logging in. (If I spend 5 minutes or so creating or editing a post, or even try to compose a PM.) This is happening virtually all the time.....

No issues with Firefox 25.0 here--except for trying to read some of the Captcha's. If I get them wrong the page reloads with my post text intact.

Actually that is not new here. There are several old threads on the topic somewhere. A year or so back, a number of people complained about the same thing. It only affected certain people though. Not sure if it was ever resolved or if maybe the affected people just gave up and went away. Garmin switched to the current forum software shortly afterwards and that may have helped.
  • Other than typing the captcha into the title a few times, I haven't had too much problem with reading them. But something was definitely needed, because each morning there were several pages of spam. For the volunteer mods, they were spending a lot of time each and every morning cleaning up the forum.

I haven't any log-out problems in a long time. I'm using Safari on Mac.

I think the problem in my case (with getting partially "logged off") may be Chrome and installed security (privacy) extension behaviors..... I'm going to login with FF next time and see whether I continue to experience these issues.... ~ Not overly impressed with Chrome these days for numerous reasons, with the exception of speed. (After launch, Chrome is fast at least!)

As for "Captcha", there has to be a better way..... I can only read about 1/3 of them (on this site) correctly....
