Basecamp routing is useless in Aus

Seriously, this is the biggest joke in mapping ever.

From Brisbane to Sydney via Tenterfield, 4 waypoints, all fuel stations.

S27 13.564 E153 02.139
S29 03.743 E152 01.049
S30 19.135 E153 05.374
S33 44.315 E151 04.407

Try that in google v basecamp. Also pulled the same fuel stations from the Garmin Waypoints, just as useless. Google takes me straight down the M1/A1 aka pacific highway: http://goo.gl/maps/KPeiJ where it should.

The best I can do is to create my routes in google, export KML and import into my Montana. Would be nice if garmin could actually get this right, would be nice to have turn by turn instructions, but alas, I am resigned to following a magenta line on a map. Even my old nuvi can route better than this rubbish.

I have been injured for 8 months now, was kinda hoping with all the latest upgrades it might be better. Fraid not.

What maps are you using in BaseCamp?
If you are using the default "Global Map", then yes, it is pretty useless. If you have installed more detailed maps, that should work better.

Tried it with CityNavigator Australia & New Zealand (NT 2013.20-NAVTEQ ALL) and TOPO Australia and New Zealand. Routing is limited with the TOPO, so I tend to avoid it for road use.

To be honest, I never thought of trying the Basemap. It would probably work better as there is pretty much only highways in the AUS map.
  • Well you can't blame Basecamp ... It can only route based on the map you've installed for it to use :-)

I can blame basecamp, since my Garmin Montana can manage to route me down the M1 like google using the SAME MAP. Seems my Nuvi can manage it also, using the SAME MAP.

    Nope, basecamp is useless.
  • Basecamp will route the same way if you have the correct map selected and your Basecamp routing and avoidance options are similar to the ones set on your nuvi. If your Basecamp routes aren't matching or close to matching you have something set up incorrectly.

Is the CN map showing in the Basecamp drop down list? Have you selected it?

Which routing activity is selected? What avoidances are set in Basecamp?

Are you able to post a screen shot to show the problem?

You can use that SAME MAP in BC. If you connect your GPSr to the PC then BC should be able to read the routable map off the device. That will give you the same routing capability in BC as on the device provided that profile settings are the same.

Yes, well aware of this. I connect my GPS, select the map from the drop down.

Just out of interest, I did the trip over the weekend and rather than using my google track, I added all my waypoints into the Montana and let it figure out the route. Pretty much the exact same route as google.

will post a screen shot of some of the issues when I get home tonight.
